Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced BESS Lead to provide programme-level governance and technical oversight for Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) delivery, integration, performance readiness, and operational risk management. The role will ensure that battery safety, OEM interfaces, grid integration, commissioning readiness, and technical dependencies are effectively managed across the renewable energy programme.

The BESS Lead will act as a key technical escalation point and will coordinate with engineering, site, OEM, grid, Solar/Wind, and other programme stakeholders to ensure successful BESS integration and readiness.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide programme-level governance and oversight for BESS delivery, integration, commissioning readiness, and performance.
• Review BESS programme risks, technical issues, dependencies, and recovery actions covering:
• Battery containers
• PCS (Power Conversion System)
• MV systems
• Auxiliary systems
• FSS (Fire Suppression System)
• EMS/BMS/SCADA control interfaces
• Grid interfaces
• Provide technical escalation support related to battery safety, OEM compliance, warranty obligations, performance testing, and availability requirements.
• Coordinate BESS integration dependencies with Solar/Wind generation, grid connectivity, communication networks, and energisation plans.
• Review and challenge the commissioning strategy, performance test criteria, and HOTO (Hand Over/Taking Over) readiness recommendations from the BESS Site Team Leader.
• Assess and support risk-based decisions related to BESS delivery, storage, preservation, installation, energisation, commissioning, and operations.
• Monitor critical technical and integration risks and ensure timely escalation and resolution.
• Coordinate with BESS OEMs, EPC contractors, engineering teams, grid stakeholders, and other programme functions on critical technical matters.
• Ensure appropriate governance over BESS safety, performance, reliability, warranty, and system integration requirements.
• Consolidate key BESS decisions, risks, and technical requirements for presentation to the Program Director and Client.
• Review programme-level reports and ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with project objectives.
• Provide technical guidance and governance without taking direct responsibility for routine site surveillance, witnessing, or hands-on BESS commissioning activities.

Required Experience & Skills

• 15+ years of overall experience in renewable energy, electrical power systems, energy storage, or related infrastructure.
• Strong experience in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and large-scale renewable energy projects.
• Strong understanding of battery systems, PCS, BMS, EMS, SCADA, MV systems, auxiliary systems, and grid interfaces.
• Experience with BESS integration, commissioning, performance testing, energisation, and operational readiness.
• Strong understanding of battery safety, OEM requirements, warranty obligations, and performance/availability criteria.
• Experience coordinating interfaces between BESS, Solar/Wind generation, grid connectivity, and communication systems.
• Strong programme governance, risk management, technical review, and escalation capabilities.
• Ability to work with OEMs, EPC contractors, consultants, clients, engineering teams, and site leadership.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, stakeholder-management, and communication skills.
• Ability to operate at a programme leadership and technical governance level with minimal supervision.
