Job Summary
L&T is seeking a skilled Design Engineer – Primary Design to join its Power Transmission & Distribution team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the primary design of high-voltage substations and transmission projects, ensuring compliance with client specifications, international standards, and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities
 

• Prepare primary engineering deliverables for AIS/GIS substations and transmission projects.
   
• Develop equipment layouts, general arrangement drawings, section views, and yard layouts.
   
• Prepare single-line diagrams (SLDs), busbar layouts, equipment sizing, and technical design calculations.
   
• Coordinate with secondary design, civil, structural, and project execution teams.
   
• Review vendor drawings and ensure compliance with project specifications.
   
• Support engineering activities during project execution, procurement, and commissioning phases.
   
• Ensure adherence to applicable IEC, IEEE, IS, and utility standards.
   
• Participate in technical discussions with clients, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
   

Requirements
 

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
   
• 4–7 years of experience in primary design for EHV/HV substations, transmission, or power infrastructure projects.
   
• Strong knowledge of AIS/GIS substation design, electrical layouts, and equipment selection.
   
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and other engineering design tools.
   
• Experience in EPC projects within the power transmission and distribution sector is preferred.
   
• Good understanding of international standards and engineering best practices.
   
• Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills.
   

Preferred Experience
 

• Experience working on 132kV, 220kV, 400kV, or higher voltage substation projects.
   
• Familiarity with utility and client engineering requirements in domestic or international projects
