Job Purpose
Role holder for all Automation and Control related matters in Petro Retail.
For the roll-out, he is responsible for the design of critical elements which
connect directly to customers. These elements have a direct bearing on RIL
propositions as they are customer facing touch points. His team ensures
designs cover the diversity and geographical variance of locations,
specifications are safe, operable, cost-effective, reliable and customer
friendly with efficient life-cycle cost. With regular updation, the team
leverages the latest developments/enhancement in technology to provide
competitive advantage to business on continual basis.
Job Accountabilities (Duties and Responsibilities)

Engineer & Implement Projects to meet Business Requirements

Lead selection of Engineering Consultant from the perspective of
Automation and Control Engineering Capability.

Closely work with Engineering Consultant for areas related to
instrumentation domain on engineering of Petro Retail projects.
- Set standards for uniformity across all designs.

Review & Approve engineering deliverables like Instrumentation &
Automation datasheets, specifications, and Installation drawings.

Review concepts and Sign-off all design and specification documents.
- Approve sizing and selection of instruments.

Review other discipline inputs like P&ID, vessel drawings, piping
isometrics, underground conduit layouts etc.
- Approve material specifications for procurement.

Understand Business requirements and finalise design basis incorporating
latest technology providing competitive edge to business.
- Validate TBE/TR for Control Systems and Instrumentation.
- Participate in vendor evaluation and qualification.

Approve technical bid packages, technical evaluation and participate in
technical negotiations.

Provide resolution to escalated field issues related to engineering,
conduct field audits and suggest necessary corrective action during
construction.

Review terms and conditions and DOR related to Engineering and Contract
documents.

Finalise execution keeping in mind cost optimisation and project
timelines.

Design and Implement Profit Improvement Opportunities (PIO)

Understand operational requirements and provide competitive engineered
solutions.

Value engineering without compromising on ESH and operational
requirements.

Adoption of Technology Solutions to Gain Competitive Advantage

Attend and participate in professional group meetings/seminars/Think
tank, stay abreast of new trends.
-
Research emerging/new products and recommend their applicability to
business.

Engineering analysis of projects to provide: preliminary design,
alternatives, life cycle cost leading to equipment selection with
appropriate technology.

Process Management towards Operational Excellence

Advise on major projects and technical matters involving concepts and
principles.

Develop and standardise procedures and methods to improve efficiency and
effectiveness of engineering services.

Provide technical direction and guidance for all product development.

People Development for Enhanced Capability & Productivity
-
Participate in selection, coordinate training and evaluation of assigned
personnel.

Create in-house competency to meet all Engineering needs of Petroleum
Business.
- Mentor subordinate to take up higher responsibilities.
- Create a culture within the team for “Value Engineering.”

HSE
-
Review and modify engineering designs incorporating latest HSE
requirements.

Ensure design incorporate latest local HSE requirements and are in line
with company’s policy.

Customer Satisfaction

Establish and maintain relationships with required external
Vendors/Suppliers/Agencies to ensure that project and engineering
requirements are met in collaborative means.

To provide engineering solution to business enabling customer delight,
repeatability.

Review feedback from internal and external customers and initiate
corrective action.
Skills Required (Knowledge and Skills)

Sound knowledge of engineering specifications, project procedures, and work
instructions.
- Exposure to Plant/Retail Automation and Instrumentation.
- Budgeting and cost control.

- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experience and Qualifications

Necessary:
Degree in Instrumentation Engineering.

Desirable:
M.Tech. Exposure to Instrumentation, PLC, DCS, SCADA systems.

Experience:
Minimum 20 years in the field of detailed engineering.
