Job Description – Engineering Manager
Role Overview
The Engineering Manager role is responsible for all engineering and design
activities on the engagement the person is assigned to.
This role reports to the Project Manager and provides directions to Area
Engineers, Discipline Leads and Discipline Engineers on engineering related
matters.
The Engineering Manager will typically be responsible for engineering scope
definition for the engagement, engineering planning and the sequencing of
engineering activities, engineering resource planning, onboarding and
demobilization of resources, providing technical leadership with focus on
integration of disciplines and resolution of engineering quality issues and
Safety in Design.
The Engineering Manager shall ensure that all engineering deliverables are
delivered in accordance with the engineering processes and procedures using
standard engineering design tools to achieve the project objectives within the
specified timeframe and budget.
In addition to these engagement-related responsibilities, the Engineering
Manager shall also fulfil other leadership roles like providing mentorship and
supporting business initiatives such as Visible Felt Leadership (VFL).
All leadership roles are expected to contribute to the growth of the business
through winning work, participating in proposal, managing client relationships
for the sustainability of the business.
As Hatch leader, the Engineering manager must have the ability to make

an efficient and effective communicator, and must have a high Emotional
Quotient.
Key Responsibilities:
Planning:
Ensure with Project Management that the following planning baseline
information is in place and reflected in the Pursuit / Engagement Work Plan or
Engineering Execution Plan:
- Scope of Engineering services
- Scope of facilities

RACI matrix for engineering Scope of Services

Engagement work package (EWP) register with budget, schedule and scope
-
Deliverables list and association of deliverables with EWPs
-
Engineering schedule and resource plan at EWP level, aligned with overall
project master schedule
-
Engineering resource plan at EWP level, aligned with schedule and overall
project budget
-
Engineering training plan with budget based on Engagement requirements
-
Client requirements – asset tagging, design, specifications, approval
process, handover, CAD and coordinate system requirements when applicable
-
Multi-disciplinary engineering workflows and methodologies
- Vendor package register
- Integrated engineering systems plan
- Engagement procedures manual
Setup:
Ensure that the following setup processes are in place and completed in
required timeframe:
- Work Break Structure (WBS) with EWPs
-
Mobilization and onboarding of engineering resources
-
Design tools as identified in engineering plan in coordination with the
IM/PAT team
- Baselining of the engineering schedule
-
Release of engineering EWPs and Timesheet Charge Codes

Facilitation of establishment and/or updating of design criteria and
standards by all disciplines

Communicate the baseline information to relevant stakeholders including, as
a minimum:
-
Function Discipline Leads regarding resource requirements and schedule
-
Engagement Discipline Leads and Engineering team regarding Engagement
workplan / Engineering execution plan, Engagement procedures manual and
emphasis that all deliverables are to be formally checked and recorded.
Execution:
Ensure that the following are done through the lifecycle of the engagement:

Contribute to the development of the Project Execution Plan (PEP) together
with the project leadership team (including procurement, project controls,
construction, and commissioning) and allocate roles and responsibilities for
engineering activities.

Provide engineering input into the Engagement monthly report

Coordinate with Procurement, Construction, Environmental, Safety and
Commissioning personnel early in the design effort to obtain their input and
conduct any necessary reviews.

Regularly review and appraise the structure of the engineering engagement
team
-
Establish contact with the Client Management team at key points throughout
engagement to ensure that engineering deliverables meet their requirements
in coordination with the Project Manager.

Ensure that engineering systems and 3D intelligent design environment are
effectively and properly used and the engagement in compliance with Hatch
minimum digital standards
-
Ensure that all engineering administrative function are performed
efficiently including directing Area Engineers, Discipline Engineers,
Project Engineer, Layout and BIM Coordinators and other engaged groups with
inter-related engineering responsibilities.

Involve specialist technical expertise from within Hatch or externally as
necessary.

Raise safety awareness and ensure the design for safety principles are
applied.

Arrange and facilitate design reviews and participate as required in
engineering, management and construction reviews.

Ensure technical design calculations are stored in the engagement’s
Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) consistently across all
engineering disciplines.

Coordinate quality audit verifications to ensure compliance with all
relevant engineering standards, minimum digital standards, internal
procedures for all design activities and that corrective actions are being
instigated as required.

Lead and promote the change management process.

Facilitate the engagement technical review process (governance, technical
reviews and audits, gate review).

Contribute to/participate in Value Improvement Practices activities as
required.

Facilitate the implementation of Progressive Learning system on the
Engagement across disciplines including implementation of lessons captured
from previous engagements and capturing lessons on current engagement.
Qualifications and Experience:

B Tech / BE/ BSc in any Engineering discipline
-
12 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary engineering environment
including at least 3 years managing inter-discipline engineering teams

General knowledge of industry, regulatory standards and codes, and design
criteria in engineering disciplines

Comprehensive knowledge of project planning, controls and understanding of
multi-discipline interdependencies

Ability to plan, coordinate and organize activities across engineering
disciplines
-
Sound understanding of project monitoring activities like Earned value
management, Progress assessment and Engineering control strategies
-
Knowledge of 3D model / drawing production and document control
methodologies

Ability to adapt to constant change and accommodate high pressure situations
to support the team in meeting project objectives

Ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders involved in the
engagement (including internal and external clients)

Ability to lead, motivate and inspire others, transfer expertise, and be a
coach / mentor to team members

Ability to handle complex problem-solving tasks including application of
appropriate analysis techniques considering high-level technical detail.
