Linear Conveyance Design Lead – Hatch Response Team
Reports To
Global Water Conveyance Director
Department
Water Infrastructure / Conveyance
Role Overview
The Linear Conveyance Design Lead will establish and lead a regional design
team in the Middle East to support global water and wastewater conveyance
projects. This role is pivotal in connecting design capabilities between
regions — coordinating work from India-based engineers while collaborating
daily with project teams in Canada, Australia, United States and other Hatch
locations.
The successful candidate will act as both a technical leader and delivery
coordinator, ensuring high-quality design outputs, effective communication
across time zones, and alignment with company standards, safety, and client
expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Development
-
Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary linear conveyance design team.
-
Implement efficient workflows, and quality assurance practices to ensure
consistent deliverables.
-
Foster a collaborative and accountable team culture focused on technical
excellence and professional growth.
-
Oversee performance, workload balancing, and talent development in alignment
with business needs and global response objectives.
Project Delivery and Technical Oversight
-
Lead design and construction of water and wastewater conveyance systems,
including watermains, sewers, and water and wastewater conveyance within
tunnels.
-
Manage project delivery from concept through detailed design and
construction.
-
Prepare preliminary specifications, design drawings, and contract documents.
-
Coordinate with teams across regions to deliver design packages on time and
within budget, leveraging follow-the-sun delivery models.
-
Review and approve drawings, reports, calculations, and technical
documentation prepared by global response teams.
-
Support innovation and continuous improvement in design tools, digital
delivery, and modeling workflows.
Cross-Regional Coordination
-
Act as the primary bridge between global project offices (Canada, Australia,
USA, and others) and the design global response team.
-
Facilitate smooth communication between regional project managers,
discipline leads, and the design production team.
-
Schedule and manage handover meetings across time zones to ensure seamless
project transitions and progress continuity.
-
Anticipate and resolve cross-regional challenges related to schedule
alignment, technical standards, and communication gaps.
Qualifications
-
10-12 years of experience in linear conveyance design and construction, with
a focus on municipal linear water and wastewater conveyance systems.
-
Proven experience with:
-
Small and medium diameter watermains and sanitary/trunk sewers
-
Water valve chambers, wastewater diversion chambers, and maintenance
holes
-
Hydraulic modelling, design for pressurized and gravity flow systems
-
Route alignment studies and corridor planning
-
Familiarity with municipal standards, regulatory permitting, and
environmental assessment processes.
-
Chartered or Licensed Professional Engineer (or equivalent registration)
preferred.
-
Proven ability to lead remote and multicultural teams and coordinate across
global offices.
-
Proficiency in BIM, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MicroStation.
-
Demonstrate qualifications in project management, including design delivery
across linear water and wastewater conveyance projects.
-
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
-
Availability for international travels to participate in project reviews,
design workshops and other activities across regions.
Technical Expertise Requirements
-
Excellent knowledge of pipeline hydraulics, encompassing both pressurized
and open channel flow systems.
-
Demonstrated proficiency in designing and analyzing systems for surge
protection and transient pressure control, including the integration of flow
control structures such as valves, weirs, and energy dissipation devices.
-
Specialized expertise in the design of pipelines using a range of materials
including concrete pressure pipe, steel, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), high
density polyethylene (HDPE) and ductile iron accounting for
material-specific performance, installation practices, and long-term
durability under diverse hydraulic and geotechnical conditions.
-
In-depth understanding of geotechnical, and hydrogeological factors
affecting linear infrastructure, including soil-structure interaction,
groundwater management, dewatering strategies, and subsurface risk
mitigation to ensure safe and constructible designs.
-
Proficiency in the design of chambers, and maintenance holes, incorporating
geotechnical considerations, structural detailing, and integration with both
temporary and permanent conveyance infrastructure.
