Job Summary

L&T is seeking an experienced Lead Design Engineer – Primary (Substations) to lead and execute primary engineering activities for AIS and GIS substations. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 7 years of experience in EHV/HV substation engineering, with strong expertise in secondary design and a sound understanding of primary design concepts, standards, and engineering practices. The role involves leading the preparation, review, and coordination of primary design deliverables while ensuring compliance with client specifications, industry standards, quality requirements, and project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Design Engineering

Prepare and review substation primary engineering deliverables for AIS and GIS substations ranging from 11 kV to 765 kV.
Develop and review:
- Single Line Diagrams (SLD)
- General Arrangement (GA) Drawings
- Equipment Layouts
- Busbar Layouts
- Section Views and Elevations
- Conductor and Busbar Sizing Calculations
- Earthing and Lightning Protection Layouts
- Equipment Selection and Technical Evaluations
Perform equipment sizing and selection based on project requirements and applicable standards.
Coordinate with civil, electrical, protection, control, and commissioning teams for design optimization.

Engineering Coordination

Interface with clients, consultants, vendors, and project execution teams.
Review vendor drawings and ensure technical compliance.
Participate in design review meetings and technical discussions.
Support bid engineering and proposal teams during tendering stages.

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (B.E./B.Tech).
Master's degree will be an added advantage.

Experience

Minimum 7 years of experience in Substation Engineering.
Strong background in secondary design engineering for EHV/HV substations.
Experience in AIS/GIS substations up to 400 kV/765 kV preferred.
Exposure to EPC projects and utility/customer requirements.
