Job Description: Lead Ignition Developer

Key Accountability Areas

Responsibility Area	Key Activities
Ignition Platform Ownership	• Lead setup, configuration, and maintenance of the Ignition platform across production environments. • Manage project structure, tags, security zones, and Perspective module architecture. • Implement versioning and backup standards using EAM or Git integrations.
Contractor & Vendor Oversight	• Manage day-to-day execution and quality from external Ignition contractors and service partners. • Define integration specs, enforce review gates, and ensure contract scope adherence.
Infrastructure Integration	• Collaborate with OT/IT teams to configure VM, storage, and network environments for Ignition. • Define sizing and high-availability topology (e.g., 3-node clustering, failover support).
Perspective UI & Dashboards	• Build scalable and responsive dashboards using Perspective views and embedded reports. • Design intuitive UIs for operators, engineers, and supervisors across plant roles.
Hardware & System Integration	• Integrate Ignition with various field hardware (PLCs, sensors, vision cameras, etc.) using protocols like OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, etc. • Connect to external systems like SCADA historians, MES, and ERP (SAP, Oracle) for bidirectional data sync.
Data & Event Handling	• Implement data ingestion, scripting, alerts, tag history, and REST/MQTT connectors to external APIs or devices. • Enable Edge-to-Cloud event handling with IoT Hub, Kafka, or Event Grid where applicable.

Required Skills

Category	Skillset
Ignition Certification	Must be a Certified Ignition Developer or higher (Gold preferred).
Platform Expertise	Deep experience with Ignition Perspective , Gateway configuration, EAM, Tag Historian, Alarm Notification, MQTT modules.
Integration	Proven ability to integrate with PLCs, cameras, databases (SQL, SQLite), REST APIs , and ERP systems (e.g., SAP via SFTP/API).
Infrastructure Awareness	Understanding of VM sizing, Docker/k8s deployment of Ignition, OS-level logging, and TLS setup.
Development & Debugging	Proficiency in Python (Ignition scripting), SQL, gateway diagnostics, and UI component tuning.
Soft Skills	Ability to manage contractors, review code, document integration specs, and interface with OT/IT leadership.

Nice to Have

Experience with ISA-95 modeling and Unified Namespace (UNS) setup using MQTT + Sparkplug B
Familiarity with Azure IoT Hub , Data Factory , and streaming pipelines
Knowledge of store-and-forward , message queuing, and edge buffer strategies

Qualifications

Requirement	Details
Work Experience	5–8 years in OT/IIoT or industrial automation roles, with 2–3 years hands-on in Ignition projects
Education	B.E./B.Tech/M.Tech in Instrumentation, Electrical, Mechatronics, or Computer Science
Certifications	Ignition Certified Developer (mandatory); EAM, MQTT, and Perspective training is a plus
