Position Overview
The Tax Head will be responsible for leading the Company's tax function and ensuring robust, timely and compliant management of Direct and Indirect Taxes across the organization. The role will oversee tax compliance, tax audits, assessments, appeals, tax risk management and advisory matters, while partnering with Finance, Accounts, Procurement, Sales, Operations and Plant teams. The position will have significant exposure to a multi-plant SAP environment and will drive standardization, controls and process improvements across locations.
Key Responsibilities
· Direct Tax Management
· Ensure end-to-end compliance under Income Tax laws, including advance tax, income-tax returns, assessments, notices and related statutory requirements.
· Oversee TDS and TCS compliance, including applicability, deductions/collections, payments, returns, reconciliations, certificates and resolution of defaults/notices.
· Monitor tax positions, provisions and disclosures in coordination with Finance and statutory reporting teams.
· Review tax implications of business transactions, contracts, investments, inter-company arrangements and other significant financial decisions.
· Indirect Tax Management
· Ensure end-to-end GST compliance across all plants and business locations, including registration, returns, reconciliations, input tax credit and statutory payments.
· Oversee GST controls relating to procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, inter-company transactions, stock transfers, credit/debit notes and other business transactions.
· Ensure appropriate treatment and documentation of input tax credit, blocked credits, reversals and vendor-related GST matters.
· Oversee Customs compliance for imports/exports, including classification, valuation, documentation, duty implications and related statutory requirements.
· Monitor changes in GST, Customs and other applicable tax laws and translate them into actionable business/process requirements.
· Tax Audits, Assessments & Litigation
· Lead and coordinate tax audits, assessments, scrutiny proceedings, departmental queries and statutory inspections.
· Manage tax notices, appeals, representations and litigation matters in coordination with external tax consultants and legal advisors.
· Maintain an effective tax litigation tracker, assess exposures and ensure timely actions, documentation and management reporting.
· Develop and maintain appropriate positions, supporting documentation and tax risk mitigation measures.
· Tax Governance, Controls & Process Improvement
· Establish and monitor a robust tax control framework across corporate and plant locations.
· Identify tax risks, control gaps and potential exposures and recommend corrective actions.
· Drive tax compliance calendars, reconciliations, documentation and periodic reporting to senior management.
· Leverage SAP and tax systems/data to improve compliance accuracy, reconciliation, reporting and tax controls.
· Standardize tax processes and controls across multiple plants and locations.
· Business Partnership & Advisory
· Provide practical tax advice to business and finance teams on day-to-day and strategic transactions.
· Support Finance leadership in evaluating tax implications of new projects, capital expenditure, supply-chain arrangements and commercial decisions.
· Work closely with Plant Finance, Commercial, Procurement, Sales, Treasury, Legal and Corporate Finance teams.
· Coordinate effectively with plant finance teams and external consultants/advisors.
Required Skills & Competencies
· Strong knowledge of Direct Tax, including Income Tax, TDS and TCS.
· Strong working knowledge of Indirect Tax, particularly GST
· Hands-on experience in tax assessments, audits, notices, appeals and litigation management.
· Must have worked in an SAP environment; experience with multi-plant / multi-location operations is essential.
· Strong understanding of tax accounting, reconciliations, controls and compliance processes.
· Good analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
· Strong communication, stakeholder management and team-handling capabilities.
· Ability to work independently while effectively partnering with senior management and cross-functional teams.
· High level of integrity, attention to detail and ownership of statutory deadlines.
Qualification & Experience
· Chartered Accountant (C.A.) with 6+ years of relevant post-qualification experience.
· Relevant experience in a manufacturing environment with multi-location / multi-plant operations.
· Preferably from Auto Components / Auto Parts industry.
· Experience managing taxation independently or as a senior member of a corporate tax function will be preferred.
