Job Description: Engineering Head - Structures
THE ROLE
We are seeking an exceptional Engineering Head - Structures to lead our
structures engineering function and drive the design, development, and
qualification
of launch vehicle structural systems. This is a critical leadership role
responsible for
defining structural architecture, leading a high-performing team, and ensuring
mission success through robust structural design and analysis.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Leadership
Define and drive the structural architecture for Vikram series launch
vehicles
(stages, interstages, fairings, adapters)
Lead structural design, analysis, and optimization for rocket airframes,
propellant tanks, and composite structures
Oversee structural qualification through analysis, testing, and validation
programs
Drive design-for-manufacturing and design-for-assembly approaches to
optimize producibility
Provide technical guidance on materials selection (metallic and composite
structures)
Lead failure investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions for
structural issues
Interface with propulsion, avionics, GNC, and systems engineering teams for
integrated design
Team Leadership & Development
Build, lead, and mentor a team of 15-25 structures engineers across design,
analysis, and testing
Define team structure, roles, and skill development roadmap
Foster a culture of innovation, rigor, and continuous improvement
Conduct technical reviews and ensure quality of deliverables
Develop talent pipeline through campus hiring and capability building
Program Execution
Own structural subsystem schedules, milestones, and deliverables
Manage structural development budgets and resource allocation
Drive risk management and mitigation strategies for structural systems
Ensure compliance with space industry standards and safety requirements
Lead structural design reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR) with internal and external
stakeholders
Support vehicle integration, assembly, and launch operations
Strategic Initiatives
Define structures technology roadmap aligned with product development
plans
Drive make vs. buy decisions for structural components
Establish supplier partnerships for critical structural elements
Champion new technologies: advanced composites, additive manufacturing,
smart structures
Represent Skyroot in industry forums and technical collaborations
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
B.Tech/B.E. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related
field
M.Tech/M.S. preferred
Experience
15-20 years in aerospace structures engineering.
Minimum 5 years in leadership/managerial roles.
Proven track record in launch vehicle or aircraft structural design and
development.
Experience with full lifecycle: concept → design → analysis → testing →
qualification → flight.
Technical Expertise
Deep expertise in structural mechanics, stress analysis, and finite element
analysis.
Strong knowledge of metallic structures (aluminum, steel, titanium alloys)
and
composite structures (CFRP, sandwich panels)
Proficiency in structural analysis tools: ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus, HyperMesh,
or equivalent.
Understanding of manufacturing processes: welding, machining, composite
layup, autoclave curing.
Knowledge of structural testing: static, dynamic, fatigue, acoustic,
thermal-
vacuum.
Familiarity with aerospace standards: NASA-STD, MIL-STD, ECSS, ISRO
standards.
