This role reports to the Head of the Design and Engineering function
Job Purpose
The Electrical Design Lead is responsible for delivering efficient, compliant,
and cost-effective electrical designs, with a focus on critical infrastructure
projects. This role ensures seamless coordination across teams, drives value
engineering, and facilitates smooth project execution from design to handover.

Responsibilities

Electrical Design Leadership:
Oversee and lead all electrical design activities for projects, ensuring
high-quality outputs that align with technical specifications and
project-specific requirements. Incorporate value engineering principles into
electrical designs to optimize costs, improve efficiency, and enhance
project outcomes. Collaborate with the Head of Design and Engineering to
define and implement strategies for electrical design excellence.

Project Management and Coordination:

Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, civil, and
architectural) to integrate electrical systems seamlessly into overall
project designs.

Participate in project planning meetings to gather design requirements
and ensure the electrical scope aligns with project goals.

Ensure a smooth handover of finalized electrical designs and engineering
deliverables to the site team for execution.

Monitor and update electrical design schedules, deliverables, and
milestones, reporting progress to the Head of Design and Engineering.

Vendor and Procurement Management:

Work closely with the procurement team to evaluate and select vendors
for electrical equipment and systems.

Provide technical clearance to vendors to ensure materials and equipment
meet design specifications and project requirements.

Facilitate coordination with the Supply Chain Management (SCM) team to
ensure timely delivery of materials and resources.

Team Management:

Lead and mentor the electrical design team, providing guidance on
technical and project management aspects.

Assign tasks, monitor progress, and ensure timely delivery of designs.

Facilitate skill development and certifications for team members to keep
pace with emerging technologies and best practices.

Foster a collaborative and performance-oriented team culture.

Process Improvement and Innovation:
-
Identify opportunities for improving the efficiency and accuracy of
electrical design processes.

Stay updated with advancements in electrical engineering, energy
systems, and software tools, driving innovation within the team.

Implement and promote the use of advanced design tools such as AutoCAD,
Revit, ETAP, and similar software.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

Ensure that all electrical designs comply with applicable health,
safety, and environmental policies.

Conduct quality checks and peer reviews to maintain adherence to safety
standards and regulations.

Address client feedback and design gaps promptly, ensuring alignment
with quality expectations.

Technical Support and Documentation:
-
Provide technical support to the execution and construction teams,
ensuring the smooth implementation of designs.

Prepare and review electrical design documentation, including
calculations, layouts, schematics, and BOQs.

Support the preparation of technical proposals and bid submissions,
ensuring alignment with client requirements.
Objectives & Key Performance Indicators

100% on-time submission of all electrical design documents, drawings, and
specifications as per project timelines.

100% compliance with project-specific technical requirements, electrical
codes, and safety standards.

Maintain a client satisfaction score of 90% or higher for electrical design
deliverables.

High retention rate and successful completion of training/certifications for
team members.

Achieve 100% accuracy in electrical design documentation with zero critical
errors in submitted reports.

Job Qualifications and Requirements
Knowledge and Experience
-
20+ years of professional experience in electrical design and engineering,
preferably with 3+ years of experience in data center projects or similar
critical infrastructure.
-
In-depth understanding of electrical system design principles, including
structural and load calculations.
-
Familiarity with Public Works Department (PWD) processes, certifications,
and standards for large-scale projects.
-
Proven track record in managing multi-disciplinary teams and delivering
complex engineering solutions on time and within budget.
-
Strong grasp of techno-commercial aspects of electrical design, procurement,
and vendor evaluation.
-
Comprehensive knowledge of energy-efficient designs and value engineering
practices.
Education and Certifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (Diploma in Electrical
Engineering with relevant experience will also be considered).

Certified Data Centre Professional (CDCP) and relevant Public Works
Department (PWD) certifications (mandatory).

Additional certifications in advanced design software or energy systems
(preferred).
Technical Skills
-
Experience in performing structural and load calculations to ensure optimal
design and equipment sizing.

Competence in analyzing and designing electrical systems adhering to
standards such as BS, IEC, NBC, and other relevant codes.
-
Proficient in ETAP, AutoCAD and MS Office.
