Role Purpose
The role will oversee environmental, social, occupational health & safety
and sustainability compliance across Valency's India operations, while
supporting ESMS implementation, ESG frameworks, lender requirements and
continuous improvement. The position will also act as ESAP Program
Manager, driving structured tracking, monitoring, evidence review and closure
of ESAP commitments for India and group-wide lender / DFI
requirements. The role is positioned under Dr. Uttam Sur as both an India
E&S role and a central ESAP PMO support role, based in Gurgaon for
coordination with India sites, corporate teams, consultants and overseas
E&S teams.
Key Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with applicable Indian
environmental, labour, social and occupational health
& safety regulations, permits and lender
requirements.
• Support / lead E&S due diligence, risk assessments,
audits, inspections and compliance reviews across
Udupi, Ahmedabad and other operational sites.
• Develop and implement E&S policies, procedures,
SOPs, ESMS controls and site-level management
systems.
• Coordinate environmental monitoring, waste
management, pollution control, wastewater quality,
sustainability initiatives and regulatory
documentation.
• Manage incident reporting, root-cause analysis,
corrective / preventive actions and closure of audit
findings with site HSE, HR, Operations, Legal and
Supply Chain teams.
• Conduct E&S, workplace safety, contractor
compliance, grievance mechanism and worker-
welfare training / awareness programs, including IFC
PS2-related requirements.
• Lead and coordinate ESAP implementation and
monitoring for India operations and support group-
wide ESAP closure discipline.
• Maintain a consolidated ESAP tracker covering
commitments, owners, timelines, ageing, evidence
status, closure status and escalation points.
• Convert lender and investor action items into
milestone-based closure plans with clear evidence
requirements and accountable functions.
• Coordinate with internal departments, country teams,
consultants and site owners to ensure timely
completion of lender / investor commitments.
• Maintain centralized ESAP documentation and
reporting systems; identify gaps and develop
corrective action plans for compliance issues.
• Ensure alignment with IFC Performance Standards,
World Bank EHS Guidelines, BII, DFC, Proparco and
other DFI / IFI requirements.
• Prepare ESAP progress reports, evidence trackers,
dashboards, lender responses, ESG data packs,
compliance notes and closure summaries.
• Support lender audits, ESG assessments, ESDDs,
monitoring visits, consultant reviews and
management reviews.
• Coordinate with government authorities, consultants,
auditors and external stakeholders on E&S matters,
as required.
• Provide regular updates to Dr. Uttam Sur, CS&SO,
senior management and lenders; escalate overdue or
high-risk items for decision support.
• Support ESG disclosures, sustainability reports,
investor reporting, sustainability-linked financing
readiness and future IPO preparedness.
• Strengthen evidence quality so submissions are
complete, consistent, audit-ready and accepted by
lenders / consultants.

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental
Science, Sustainability, Safety, Social Performance or related field.
• 6-12 years in E&S, ESG, sustainability, compliance, audit, HSE, social
performance or program management.
• Strong knowledge of Indian EHS regulations, IFC Performance Standards, World
Bank EHS Guidelines, ESMS, ESAPs and DFI / IFI expectations.
• Experience in manufacturing, agri-processing, food processing, supply chain,
consulting or DFI-linked projects preferred.
• Proven experience in audits, risk assessments, compliance programs, CAPA
management, ESAP implementation and compliance tracking.
• Strong project management, stakeholder engagement, documentation, Excel,
PowerPoint, dashboards and compliance tracking skills.
