Position: Plant Manager
Reports to: Managing Director
Location: Lagos, Nigeria
1. ROLE SUMMARY
The Plant Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the factory’s operations, ensuring smooth and efficient production, strict adherence to quality and safety standards, optimal utilization of resources, and effective coordination across all departments (production, maintenance, QC, warehouse, utilities, etc.). The Plant Manager plans, directs, and controls all manufacturing activities to meet company targets and leads all factory personnel toward operational excellence.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Production & Operations Management
- Develop, implement, and manage daily, weekly, and monthly production plans.
- Coordinate production supervisors and line leaders to ensure efficient workflow and output delivery.
- Monitor KPIs including output, efficiency, scrap/waste, downtime, and utilization.
- Ensure timely corrective actions for production issues.
B. Staff Leadership & People Management
- Lead, supervise, mentor, and manage all plant staff.
- Implement KPIs, performance evaluations, and discipline procedures.
- Manage manpower planning, shifts, attendance, and training.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
C. Maintenance & Engineering Oversight
- Oversee mechanical, electrical, welding, and engineering maintenance teams.
- Ensure adherence to preventive and corrective maintenance schedules.
- Supervise maintenance of all plant equipment and utilities.
D. Warehouse, Inventory & Logistics Management
- Coordinate raw material, consumables, spare parts, and finished-goods inventory.
- Ensure accurate inventory control and uninterrupted production flow.
- Oversee dispatch and internal logistics coordination.
E. Quality Control, QA & Compliance
- Provide leadership to QC/QA teams.
- Ensure compliance with applicable standards, inspections, and regulations.
- Monitor defects, rejects, and rework; drive corrective actions.
F. Utilities & Energy Management
- Oversee generators, diesel/LPG systems, and energy usage.
- Ensure safety, efficiency, and reliability of all utilities.
G. Reporting & Communication
- Review daily and monthly operational reports.
- Submit performance, cost, and manpower reports to the MD.
- Liaise with all support departments to resolve bottlenecks.
H. Continuous Improvement
- Lead lean manufacturing, 5S, and process optimization initiatives.
- Recommend upgrades, cost-reduction strategies, and efficiency improvements.
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory compliance.
3. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
- Minimum 7–15 years experience in industrial manufacturing operations.
- Strong leadership, technical, and reporting skills.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and quality standards.
