3. Job Purpose

The role of the Manager Production is expected to lead the production team and is responsible for oversight of the rolling mill, section mill, furnace and oxygen plant functions in the plant. The position is directly responsible for planning, directing, monitoring, scheduling staff and work operations in a safe and efficient manner. This position is also responsible for driving improvement initiatives, achieving production goals through lean methodologies while adhering to set quality standards.

3.1 Key responsibilities

3.1.1 Production Planning and Support

• Understand sales forecast data in alignment with production capacity and finalize production plan based on the same.
• Establish and monitor short and long-term performance objectives and goals including, but not limited to: safety, on-time delivery, profitability, cost savings and quality.
• Conduct monthly planning and share details of grades produced, oversee and manage the entire production process in coordination with team members across departments to produce the desired grades, sizes and quantities and achieve set target.
• Share weekly plan with section heads, review production plan and track progress, identify procurement requirement and finalize future order schedule with procurement.
• Forecast and maintain production manning schedules and plan basis the short term and long-term production plan.
• Review and approve cost estimates, manpower and facilities requirements.
• Conduct regular cross functional production meeting including scrap team, HR and logistics support.

3.1.2 Production Efficiency Management

• Develop, present to senior leadership organizational, strategic, and operational proposals with respect to production effectiveness improvement.
• Develop, test and evaluate new techniques to improve production and lower costs.
• Act as an advisor to management on production matters, production efficiencies and improvements.
• Define, prioritize, and participate in development initiatives to improve planning, materials management, production processes and cross department cohesiveness.

3.1.3 Audit, Policy and Process

• Review yearly statutory internal audits; identify areas of concern and develop action plan to resolve the same.
• Lead development of norms and plans for plant processes, operational efficiency and performance improvement.
• Review periodically status and ensure adherence to plans.
• Identify threats from a compliance (quality, regulatory, EHS, labour and other statutory compliances) perspective and design risk-mitigation plan.

3.1.4 Additional responsibilities

• Understand needs for each client and build best practices in production.
• Promote and implement initiatives to reduce waste, improve quality, increase efficiency, promote safety and foster continuous improvement.
• Ensure all employees in production are aware and adhere to quality norms and review plant performance report and address issues.
• Visit various production units, identify issues and conduct troubleshooting, propose suggestions, initiate/oversee new projects and provide support required for special projects/facility development for production.
• Promote safety awareness and adherence of safety and hygiene norms.

3.1.5 People Management

• Track team performance at an overall and individual level and provide support/guidance required to ensure achievement of yearly plans.
• Manage effective resource allocation across different teams, enhance the capability quotient of team members and drive higher team engagement through appropriate P&C interventions.
• Review shift schedules for expats and national staff to ensure optimal rotation of staff and subcontracted workers across shifts.
• Resolve escalated issues around shift planning and review leave plan.

4. Job Specification

4.1 Educational Qualifications

Essential	Bachelor Of Engineering / Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Production or Metallurgy) preferred.
Desirable	Six Sigma certification or any other relevant certification.

4.2 Work Experience Requirements (work experience)

• Overall experience of 15+ years (18+ Yrs. for Diploma candidates) in production/operations in steel manufacturing.
• Essential work experience in Steel Melting through Induction Furnace/AOD, Billet Caster, TMT Bar Mill & Small Section Mill.
• Minimum work experience for a period of 3 years at Production Manager position, handling all the operational functions independently.
• Working experience in African Countries or Gulf Countries is desirable, but not a prerequisite.

4.3 Skills Requirements (key skills and personal attributes)

• In-depth knowledge of steel production process and equipment.
• Knowledge of Six Sigma, Lean and Agile manufacturing methodologies.
• Understanding of economic and market trends in the steel industry in the respective region.
• Proficient in local language and English or willingness to learn (French preferred).
