JOB DESCRIPTION – MEDICAL OFFICER
1. JOB TITLE
Medical Officer

4. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Medical Officer is responsible for providing medical care to employees,
preventing
occupational health risks, and managing medical emergencies in a high-risk
industrial
and mining environment.
5. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
5.1 Medical Care and Emergency Response
- Diagnose and treat common illnesses occurring on site.
- Manage medical emergencies and occupational injuries.
- Stabilize patients before referral or evacuation to Secondary/Tertiary
healthcare
facilities.
5.2 Employee Medical Surveillance
- Conduct pre-employment, periodic, and return-to-work medical examinations.
- Assess employees' medical fitness for high-risk positions.
- Monitor occupational diseases and chronic medical conditions.
5.3 Occupational Health and Prevention
- Identify and assess health risks associated with mining activities.
- Implement preventive health programs, including PPE compliance, hygiene, and
safety
initiatives.
- Participate in employee health awareness and education campaigns.
5.4 Occupational Accident Management
- Examine and document workplace accidents.
- Participate in SHREQ investigations.
- Recommend preventive and corrective measures to reduce future incidents.
5.5 Health Surveillance
- Monitor employee health indicators.
- Coordinate vaccination programs.
- Monitor epidemic and infectious disease risks, including
Malaria,Typhoid,Ebola,
respiratory infections, cholera, and other communicable diseases.
5.6 Cross-Functional Collaboration
As part of the site management team, Medical Officer collaborates with:
- SHREQ, Human Resources, and Security departments.
- Site Management by providing medical advice on workplace health conditions.
- Safety audits and SHREQ meetings.
6. REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- Medical Degree (M.B.B.S)
-7 to 10 years of Work Experience in General & Emergency Medicine
-Remote Site Work Experience Highly Desirable
-African Continent Work Experience Highly Desirable
- Comprehensive knowledge of patient records, audits, and inspections.
- Regularly inspect emergency equipment, identify deficiencies, and propose
corrective
actions whenever required.
- Ensure all required checklists are completed directly in the system.
- Continuously assess and manage occupational health risks.
- Identify and monitor high-risk employee groups on an ongoing basis.
- Perform all medical duties expected of a Medical Officer at this level,
including trauma
management and treatment of patients at site clinics.
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date Medical Emergency Response Plan.
- Provide first aid, emergency evacuation, and related training to employees
as
required.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Mentor and transfer knowledge to junior doctors, nurses, and paramedics.
- Knowledge of industrial and mining health hazards.
- Strong multidisciplinary teamwork skills.
- Competence in occupational injury management.
7. QUALIFICATIONS
- Medical Doctor (MBBS) degree (Mandatory).
- Certification in emergency medical care (BLS,ACLS,ATLS)(Mandatory).
- Additional Certification in Occupational Medicine (Desirable)

10. OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION
To protect the health, safety, and work capacity of employees while minimizing
medical
and occupational risks associated with mining operations.
