India Job Description (JD): Production Manager Position Production Manager Department Production Qualification B.E. / B.Tech in Chemical Engineering Experience 12–18 Years in Chemical / Process Industry 1. Role Purpose To lead, plan, and control all production operations across plant sections ensuring: • Safe operations (EHS compliance) • Consistent product quality • Optimal productivity and cost efficiency • Effective manpower utilization The role is responsible for end-to-end plant production performance. 2. Key Responsibilities A. Production & Operations Management • Head and manage all production activities across sections (reaction, distillation, utilities interface, packing, etc.) • Prepare and execute production planning as per monthly/weekly targets • Ensure optimum utilization of plant capacity, manpower, and resources • Monitor process parameters and yield optimization • Drive continuous improvement initiatives (productivity, cost reduction, cycle time) • Coordinate with Maintenance for minimum downtime and shutdown planning • Ensure smooth startup, shutdown, and troubleshooting of plant operations B. EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) Responsibilities • Ensure strict compliance with EHS policies, SOPs, and statutory regulations • Promote and enforce safe working practices (PTW, LOTO, PPE compliance) • Lead hazard identification (HAZOP), risk assessment, and mitigation actions • Ensure compliance with: o Pollution Control Board norms o Hazardous chemical handling rules • Drive zero incident / zero accident culture C. Quality Management • Conduct safety audits, safety training, and incident investigations • Ensure consistent product quality as per specifications • Coordinate with QA/QC for: o In-process checks o Final product approval • Implement process control systems and corrective actions • Investigate quality deviations and customer complaints • Drive quality improvement and reduction in rejections • Ensure compliance with ISO / IMS systems D. Team & HR Management • Lead and manage: o Shift engineers o Supervisors o Operators • Ensure proper manpower planning and deployment • Conduct: o Performance evaluation o Skill development and training • Maintain discipline and high team morale • Ensure effective communication across shifts • Handle conflict resolution and team coordination • Develop second-line leadership F. Documentation & Compliance • Ensure proper maintenance of: o Batch records o Log sheets o SOPs • Ensure compliance with: o Internal audits o External audits (ISO, statutory) • Maintain data accuracy for production and reporting G. Cross-Functional Coordination • Coordinate with: o Maintenance (breakdowns & shutdowns) o QA/QC (quality issues) o Stores (raw material availability) o EHS team (safety compliance) o Management (MIS reporting) 3.
