Job Title: Steel Bridge Erection Manager
Job Summary
The Steel Bridge Erection Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating,
and supervising all on-site activities
related to the erection of steel bridge structures. This role ensures that
work is executed safely, efficiently, within
schedule, and in compliance with engineering specifications and quality
standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Site Management & Execution
Oversee daily steel bridge erection activities, including launching,
lifting, alignment, bolting, and welding.
Ensure erection is carried out as per approved drawings, method statements,
and project specifications.
Coordinate with site engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
2. Planning & Scheduling
Develop and monitor erection schedules in line with the overall project
timeline.
Plan resource allocation (manpower, cranes, equipment, materials).
Identify potential delays and implement mitigation strategies.
3. Safety Management
Enforce strict adherence to safety standards and procedures.
Conduct toolbox talks, risk assessments, and safety audits.
Ensure proper use of PPE and safe lifting practices during heavy steel
erection.
4. Technical Oversight
Review erection drawings, connection details, and temporary works designs.
Supervise alignment, leveling, camber control, and structural stability
during erection.
Coordinate with design and engineering teams for any technical
clarifications or modifications.
5. Quality Control
Ensure all erection works meet quality standards and tolerances.
Inspect bolted and welded connections.
Coordinate with QA/QC teams for inspections and documentation.
6. Equipment & Logistics Management
Manage heavy lifting equipment such as cranes, launching girders, and jacks.
Plan logistics for transportation and handling of steel components.
Ensure proper storage and handling of materials on site.
7. Coordination & Communication
Liaise with project managers, consultants, and clients.
Coordinate with civil works teams (foundations, piers, bearings readiness).
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly progress reports.
8. Problem Solving
Address on-site challenges such as misalignment, weather issues, or
equipment failure.
Implement corrective actions quickly to minimize downtime.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Structural Engineering.
8–15 years of experience in bridge construction, with strong exposure to
steel bridge erection.
Experience in handling large infrastructure or highway bridge projects.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong knowledge of steel structures and erection techniques (launching,
incremental launching, crane
erection, etc.)
Expertise in heavy lifting operations and rigging
Leadership and team management skills
Excellent planning and organizational abilities
Strong understanding of safety regulations
Problem-solving and decision-making skills
Good communication and reporting skills
Working Conditions
Primarily site-based role
May require long hours and work in challenging outdoor conditions
Frequent coordination with multiple teams and stakeholders
