GA Steels, India's largest special/tool steels distributor (65+ years), stocks 8,000 MT inventory (75,000 MT supplied annually) in Kalamboli/Taloja warehouses. GA Steel Tech complements this with 2,500 MT/year precision machining, offering "steel to solutions" for tool & die, automotive forging, mining, bearings, pharma tooling. Key milestone: 2013 co-development of AISI H13 EFS with Sanyo for superior die life vs. European imports.

JOB OVERVIEW

Job purpose

Manage GA Steel Tech's outsourcing operations by identifying, developing and managing a reliable base of machining sub-contractors and job-work vendors, ensuring quality, cost and delivery targets are met, while building strong supplier relationships that support the company's growth and customer commitments.

Core Responsibilities

• Identify, evaluate and onboard outsourcing partners/job-work vendors capable of CNC, VMC and HMC machining processes
• Plan and allocate outsourced jobs to vendors based on capacity, capability, cost and delivery timelines
• Apply zero-based costing to arrive at fair and competitive outsourcing rates for each job/part
• Negotiate rates, terms and contracts with outsourcing vendors to optimize cost without compromising quality
• Build and maintain strong, long-term supplier relationships to ensure consistent capacity availability and priority support
• Monitor vendor performance on quality, delivery and cost, and drive corrective action where standards are not met
• Coordinate with engineering, QA and production teams to ensure outsourced parts meet drawing and quality requirements
• Track outsourcing spend and identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement
• Support the company's growth plans by expanding and strengthening the outsourcing vendor base as volumes increase
• Align outsourcing decisions with the company's overall goals, vision and customer commitments

People Management

Lead and guide the outsourcing team, assigning responsibilities and monitoring day-to-day work.

Set clear targets for the team on vendor development, cost savings and on-time delivery from outsourced sources.

Motivate the team to build a culture of ownership, cost consciousness and strong vendor partnerships.

Decision Making

Select and approve outsourcing vendors and job allocation based on cost, quality and delivery capability.

Approve outsourcing rates within budget guidelines, escalating major cost deviations to the Plant Head/CBO.

Recommend continuation, improvement plans, or exit for underperforming vendors.

Key Skills
