Job Description
Maintenance Engineer (Electrical & Electronics)
Company AVS Industries Limited
Department Maintenance (Electrical & Electronics)
Location Ghana
Reports To Maintenance Manager / Plant Head
Employment Type Full-Time
Job Summary
We are looking for a skilled Maintenance Engineer (Electrical & Electronics) to ensure the reliability, safety, and optimal
performance of all electrical and electronic systems across the plant — including extrusion lines, printing presses,
lamination and slitting machines, and utilities. The role involves breakdown maintenance, preventive/predictive
maintenance, and driving improvements in equipment uptime and energy efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Breakdown & Preventive Maintenance
• Attend to electrical/electronic breakdowns on extrusion, printing (gravure/flexo), lamination, slitting, and pouching
machines to minimize downtime
• Plan and execute preventive maintenance (PM) schedules for motors, drives, PLCs, sensors, control panels, and
power distribution systems
• Maintain and troubleshoot VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), servo drives, PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
• Carry out root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring electrical failures and implement corrective actions
Electrical Systems & Utilities
• Maintain plant electrical infrastructure: HT/LT panels, transformers, DG sets, capacitor banks, and power distribution
systems
• Monitor and optimize power factor, energy consumption, and load management
• Ensure upkeep of utilities equipment — air compressors, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC — from an electrical
standpoint
• Coordinate with electricity board/utility providers for power supply-related matters
Instrumentation & Automation
• Maintain and calibrate instrumentation devices (sensors, thermocouples, pressure/flow transmitters, load cells)
• Support automation upgrades and troubleshoot PLC/HMI programs (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, or similar)
• Work with OEMs/vendors for machine automation upgrades, retrofitting, and spare part support
Safety & Compliance
• Ensure all electrical maintenance work complies with safety standards (LOTO, PPE usage, electrical safety protocols)
• Maintain statutory compliance related to electrical installations (factory electrical inspections, earthing, licenses)
• Conduct/support electrical safety audits and implement corrective actions
• Maintain documentation for maintenance records, breakdown logs, and compliance certificates
Spare Parts & Inventory Management
• Maintain optimum inventory of critical electrical/electronic spares (drives, PLCs, sensors, contactors, cards)
• Coordinate with procurement for timely availability of spares and vendor management
• Evaluate and recommend alternate/cost-effective sources for critical spares
Continuous Improvement
• Support TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) initiatives to improve machine reliability and OEE
• Identify and implement energy-saving opportunities across electrical systems
• Analyze downtime data and drive initiatives to reduce MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) and increase MTBF (Mean
Time Between Failures)
• Participate in new machine installation, commissioning, and electrical layout planning
Required Qualifications
Education
Diploma / B.Tech / B.E. in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, or Instrumentation Engineering
Experience
2–6 years of maintenance experience in a flexible packaging, printing, plastics processing, or similar manufacturing
industry
Technical Knowledge
• Hands-on experience with PLCs, VFDs, servo drives, HMIs, and SCADA systems
• Working knowledge of HT/LT electrical distribution systems, transformers, and DG sets
• Understanding of extrusion, printing, and lamination machine electrical systems (preferred)
• Familiarity with electrical safety standards and statutory compliance requirements
• Basic knowledge of ERP/CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) for maintenance tracking
Preferred Skills
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings/schematics
• Good coordination skills with production, quality, and procurement teams
• Willingness to work in shifts and respond to emergency breakdowns
• Knowledge of TPM/Lean Manufacturing concepts is a plus
• Basic understanding of quality standards (ISO 9001, BRC/IoPP) is an advantage
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
• Machine uptime % / MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures)
• MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) for electrical breakdowns
• Preventive maintenance schedule adherence %
• Energy consumption / power factor optimization
• Spare parts availability and inventory accuracy
• Safety compliance (zero electrical incidents)
