| Education | BE / BTech / Diploma (Mechanical / Production / Tool & Die) |
| Purpose of the Role | To design, develop, and improve cold forging dies and processes ensuring stable production, long die life, and defect-free components, meeting automotive quality and cost requirements. |
| Key Responsibilities | |
| 1. Cold Forging Die Design | Design cold forging dies, punches, inserts, ejectors, and tool stacks |
| Prepare die drawings, assembly drawings, and specifications | |
| 2. Process Design & Development | Define process sequence, reductions per stage, and forming loads |
| Select appropriate tool steels, coatings, and heat treatment | |
| Support process trials, prove-out, and SOP stabilization | |
| Optimize lubrication and surface treatment processes | |
| 3. Die Manufacturing & Tool Room Coordination | Coordinate die manufacturing, fitting, and assembly |
| Guide tool room personnel on critical tolerances and finishing | |
| Ensure correct heat treatment, surface treatment, and inspection | |
| Support die try-outs and corrections | |
| 4. Tool Life Improvement & Cost Reduction | Analyze die failures and wear patterns |
| Implement design improvements and corrective actions | |
| Drive tool life improvement and cost reduction projects | |
| Standardize die design practices and components | |
| 5. Quality & Problem Solving | Support resolution of forming defects, cracks, laps, and dimensional issues |
| Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions | |
| Support PPAP, APQP, and customer audits | |
| 6. CAD / Simulation (if applicable) | Use CAD tools (AutoCAD / NX / SolidWorks / Creo) for die design |
| Validate designs through trials | |
| 7. Documentation & Change Management | Maintain design documents, ECNs, and revision control |
| Prepare process sheets and die maintenance instructions | |
| Support internal and customer audits with documentation | |
| 8. Safety, 5S & Compliance | Ensure safe practices in tool room and forging shop |
| Follow 5S, TPM, and IATF 16949 system requirements | |
| Skills & Competencies | Strong knowledge of cold forging processes and die design principles |
| Experience in tool steels, coatings, and heat treatment | |
| Understanding of automotive drawings. | |
| Practical, hands-on approach to problem solving | |
| Good coordination with production and tool room teams | |
