Job Title: Engineer – Method Statement (Steel Bridge Erection)
Job Summary
The Engineer – Method Statement is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and optimizing detailed method statements for steel
bridge erection activities. This role ensures that all erection methodologies are safe, technically sound, and aligned with project
specifications, site conditions, and construction best practices.
Key Responsibilities
1. Method Statement Preparation
Develop detailed method statements for steel bridge erection activities such as launching, crane erection, cantilever
erection, and incremental launching.
Prepare step-by-step procedures including sequencing, temporary supports, and stability considerations.
Define equipment requirements, lifting plans, and manpower deployment.
2. Technical Analysis & Planning
Study structural drawings, design calculations, and project specifications.
Analyze erection feasibility considering site constraints (access, terrain, traffic, river crossings, etc.).
Coordinate with structural designers for temporary works and erection stresses.
3. Lifting & Rigging Plans
Prepare detailed lifting plans including crane selection, load calculations, rigging details, and lifting sequences.
Ensure compliance with safe working load (SWL) limits and lifting standards.
Identify critical lifts and define control measures.
4. Temporary Works Design Coordination
Assist in the design and review of temporary structures such as staging, trestles, launching girders, and supports.
Ensure stability of partially erected structures under different load conditions (wind, construction loads).
5. Risk Assessment & Safety Integration
Conduct risk assessments (JSA / HIRA) for erection activities.
Incorporate safety measures into method statements.
Ensure compliance with project safety standards and regulations.
6. Documentation & Approvals
Prepare method statements, technical submittals, and supporting documents for consultant/client approval.
Revise documents based on review comments.
Maintain proper documentation and version control.
7. Site Coordination & Support
Provide technical support to the site team during execution.
Clarify methodology, sequence, and technical details to engineers and supervisors.
Participate in site inspections and ensure adherence to approved methods.
8. Optimization & Innovation
Suggest improved erection techniques to enhance safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.
Evaluate alternative construction methods and equipment.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering.
3–8 years of experience in bridge construction or structural steel erection.
Experience in preparing method statements for infrastructure projects.
Key Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of steel bridge erection methods and sequencing
Knowledge of structural behavior during erection stages
Familiarity with lifting equipment and rigging practices
Ability to interpret engineering drawings and calculations
Proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of AutoCAD or similar tools preferred
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good technical writing and documentation skills
Preferred Experience
Experience with large-span steel bridges, truss bridges, or segmental erection
Familiarity with international codes (IS, AASHTO, Eurocodes)
Exposure to temporary works design or construction engineering
Working Conditions
Primarily office-based with regular site visits
Close coordination with design, planning, and execution teams
May require working under tight deadlines for submissions and approvals
