Job Overview
We are looking for a Junior Trader to manage our trading desk and
operations for cocoa from Lagos Nigeria. You will be responsible for
managing the cocoa trade desk and guiding the procurement and export teams
of cocoa.
You will be responsible for global buyer development, driving procurement strategy in West Africa and navigating complex trade flows. This position is ideal for someone with strong trading acumen, deep commodity knowledge, and a passion for building businesses in Nigeria and Africa.
Key Responsibilities
· P&L responsibility: Manage profit margins, pricing strategies, and business planning for the sesame vertical
· Buyer engagement: Build and manage strong relationships with international buyers and processors. Negotiate pricing, terms, and contracts.
· Procurement & origination: Guide sourcing teams in Africa on procurement strategy and setting up of necessary infrastructure (warehousing, machinery) at origin
· Marketing and business development: Represent the company at important trade fairs, industry conferences, and networking events to strengthen brand visibility and credibility.
· Market Intelligence: Track global trends and competitor activity to inform trade decisions.
· Contract & compliance: Ensure all trade contracts and export activities meet legal, quality, and buyer standards
Qualifications
· Cocoa and Nigeria experience: Atleast 3 years of experience working in Cocoa in Nigeria.
· Proven P&L ownership and track record of executing profitable trades.
· Excellent negotiation skills and commercial judgment.
· Strong network of global buyers and/or origin suppliers.
· Familiarity with Incoterms, trade finance instruments, and international trade contracts.
· Willingness to travel to sourcing regions and key market hubs.
· Entrepreneurial mindset, self-driven, and comfortable in dynamic business environments.
