1. Position Purpose
We are looking for an experienced and commercially oriented
General Manager
to take overall responsibility for the operations, performance,
profitability, people and growth of Blowplast / Blowpack Industries.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing multiple plastics
manufacturing operations, ensuring
high productivity, operational efficiency, quality, cost control, safety and
customer satisfaction
.
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in
blown film extrusion, thermoforming and plastics recycling
, with the ability to manage a multi-disciplinary manufacturing organisation.
2. Manufacturing Operations
The General Manager will oversee operations including:
-
PP Sheet Extrusion
-
PP Thermoforming
-
Injection Moulding
for takeaway products such as spoons and forks using
HIPS and GPPS
-
Blown Film Extrusion
– monolayer and multilayer
-
Plastic / PE Recycling
-
Associated utilities, maintenance, quality, warehouse and production support
functions
3. Key Responsibilities
A. Overall Plant & Business Management
-
Take overall responsibility for day-to-day operations and business
performance.
-
Drive production, productivity, efficiency and profitability.
-
Develop and implement annual operating plans, production targets and
budgets.
-
Monitor KPIs and take corrective actions where required.
-
Identify opportunities for capacity utilisation, process improvement and
cost reduction.
-
Ensure optimum utilisation of manpower, machinery, raw materials and
utilities.
B. Production & Operational Excellence
-
Ensure production plans are achieved safely, efficiently and on time.
-
Improve machine utilisation, OEE, production yield and overall plant
efficiency.
-
Reduce material waste, production losses, downtime and rejection.
-
Establish strong production planning and scheduling systems.
-
Drive continuous improvement and lean manufacturing practices.
-
Ensure effective coordination between Production, Maintenance, QA, Stores,
Procurement and Sales.
C. Technical & Engineering Management
-
Provide leadership to the maintenance and engineering teams.
-
Ensure preventive and predictive maintenance systems are implemented.
-
Minimise breakdowns and improve machine reliability.
-
Ensure critical spares are properly planned and controlled.
-
Evaluate machine performance and recommend technical improvements or
upgrades.
D. Blown Film & Thermoforming
Strong technical understanding and practical experience in
blown film extrusion and thermoforming
is highly desirable.
The candidate should be capable of understanding and improving:

Extrusion process parameters
-
Film quality and consistency
-
Multilayer film structures
-
Material consumption and wastage
-
Thermoforming cycle and productivity
-
Sheet quality and dimensional control
-
Tooling and mould-related issues
-
Process optimisation and product development support
E. Recycling Operations
-
Manage PE/plastic recycling operations efficiently.
-
Improve recovery, yield and quality of recycled material.
-
Control contamination, process losses and energy consumption.
-
Ensure recycled material meets required quality specifications.
-
Develop systems for efficient collection, sorting, washing, processing and
utilisation of recycled materials.
F. Quality, Safety & Compliance
-
Ensure consistent product quality and compliance with customer
specifications.
-
Establish strong quality control systems across all manufacturing
operations.
-
Ensure strict implementation of
HSE, housekeeping and food/contact-material safety requirements
where applicable.
-
Promote a strong safety culture throughout the organisation.
G. Commercial & Cost Management
-
Control manufacturing costs and improve margins.
-
Monitor raw material consumption, conversion costs, energy and utility
consumption.
-
Work closely with Procurement and Sales to optimise inventory and production
planning.
-
Support commercial teams in costing, quotations and customer requirements.
-
Develop and monitor departmental budgets.
H. People & Leadership
-
Lead, motivate and develop the management and production teams.
-
Establish clear accountability and performance KPIs.
-
Develop training and succession plans for key positions.
-
Build a strong culture of discipline, teamwork, ownership and continuous
improvement.
-
Ensure effective communication across all departments.
4. Candidate Profile
Essential / Preferred Experience:
-
Minimum
10–15 years of experience
in plastics manufacturing, with significant experience in a senior
management role.
-
Strong hands-on experience in
Blown Film Extrusion
.
-
Strong experience in
Thermoforming / PP Sheet Extrusion
.
-
Experience in
plastic / PE recycling
will be highly preferred.
-
Experience in injection moulding will be an advantage.
-
Proven experience managing multiple production departments or a multi-plant
operation.
-
Strong understanding of production, maintenance, quality, costing and plant
management.
-
Strong leadership and people-management skills.
-
Ability to analyse production data and drive measurable improvements.
-
Experience working in Africa / Ghana or similar emerging markets will be an
advantage.

The position requires regular presence at the manufacturing facilities and
close involvement with day-to-day plant operations.
