Role Purpose

The Principal Officer – Payments will be responsible for governance, business development and business oversight of all payment and fund flow mechanisms supporting the PSP business. The role ensures compliant movement of client funds across domestic and cross-border rails while adhering to regulations issued by RBI, IFSCA, and applicable US / EU / UK / UAE financial regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Business Building

●       Act as the designated Principal Officer for Payments and Fund Flows carried out through the PSP business.

●       Drive business growth working with key leaders at Appreciate - driving B2C and B2B growth partnering with supporting functions 

●       Ensure operational excellence, build sales teams, develop new use cases and deliver profitable revenue growth of the PSP business

●       Build team required to drive revenue growth working with HR and Appreciate leadership counterparts

●       Serve as the primary point of contact for regulators, partners, custodian banks, and other key service providers.

Cross-Border Payments & FX Controls

●       Govern cross-border payment rails supporting multiple jurisdictions.

●       Ensure compliance with FEMA, LRS, AML/CFT, sanctions screening, and OFAC-related controls.

●       Oversee FX conversions, partner bank relationships, and payment intermediary relationships to ensure transparency and auditability.

AML, KYC & Financial Crime

●       Ensure robust KYC, AML, and transaction monitoring frameworks for payments.

●       Coordinate suspicious transaction reporting (STR/SAR) with internal AML teams and regulatory bodies.

●       Oversee fraud risk management related to funding, withdrawals, and settlement mismatches.

Risk Management  

●       Identify and mitigate operational, liquidity, settlement, and counterparty risks.

●       Oversee reconciliation, break management, and daily settlement reporting.

●       Lead internal and external audits related to payments, custody, and fund flows.

●       Ensure timely closure of audit findings and regulatory observations.

Qualifications & Experience

●       Bachelor’s or Professional degree in Finance, Law, Accounting, or Management (MBA / CA / CS preferred).

●       10+ years of experience in:

○        Banks, Capital markets, brokerage operations, or fintech

○        Payments, settlements, or custody operations

●       Strong exposure to:

○        X-border payments

○        Indian exchanges (NSE/BSE) settlement and client fund norms

●       Prior experience as a Principal Officer, Compliance Officer, or senior payments/risk role in a regulated entity preferred.

Key Skills & Competencies

●       Deep understanding of payment ecosystems

●       Strong regulatory interpretation and stakeholder management skills

●       Experience with cross-border payments and FX controls

●       High attention to detail, governance mindset, and escalation judgment

●       Ability to work across jurisdictions and time zones
