Position Overview
The Mining Surveyor is responsible for providing accurate and timely
surveying,
measurement, mapping, and spatial data services to support safe and efficient
mining
operations. The role involves mine surveying, volume calculations, pit
development
monitoring, setting out of mining activities, and maintaining accurate survey
records in
compliance with approved mine plans and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Mine Surveying & Mapping
Conduct preliminary and detailed surveys of mineral deposits, mining areas,
infrastructure, and mine development zones.
Establish and maintain accurate survey control points, benchmarks, and
reference networks across the mine site.
Prepare, update, and interpret mine plans, topographical maps, sections,
layouts,
and detailed survey drawings.
Carry out surveys for open-pit and underground mining activities as
applicable.
2. Production & Mining Operations
Monitor mining activities and ensure excavation, bench development, haul
roads,
dumps, stockpiles, and other mine workings are carried out in accordance with
approved mine plans and designs.
Set out excavation limits, pit boundaries, benches, ramps, drilling
patterns, blast
areas, and other mining infrastructure.
Provide accurate survey data to Mining, Geology, Grade Control, and
Production
teams to support operational decision-making.
Identify and report deviations from approved mine designs and recommend
corrective actions.
3. Volume & Quantity Measurement
Conduct accurate surveys and calculate volumes and quantities of ore, waste,
stockpiles, spoil dumps, ROM stock, and other material movements.
Monitor excavation and dumping progress and prepare periodic volume
calculations.
Support production reconciliation by comparing surveyed quantities against
mining records and geological models.
Maintain accurate records of material movement and stockpile changes.
4. Geological & Technical Support
Work closely with Geologists, Mining Engineers, Grade Control Geologists,
and
other technical teams to support geological and mining activities.
Assist in surveying drill-hole collars, exploration areas, trenches, ore
zones, and
other geological features.
Provide accurate spatial data for geological modelling, resource estimation,
grade control, and mine planning.
5. Survey Technology & Data Management
Operate and maintain surveying equipment, including Total Stations,
GNSS/GPS,
levels, drones/UAVs, and other modern survey instruments.
Utilize GIS, CAD, and mine-survey software to process survey data and
prepare
maps, plans, and digital models.
Ensure survey data is accurately recorded, processed, backed up, and
maintained in accordance with company standards.
Implement modern surveying technologies to improve accuracy, efficiency, and
productivity.
6. Safety & Mine Compliance
Conduct surveys and inspections to support safe mine development and
identify
potential risks associated with mine geometry, slopes, benches, dumps, and
other mining structures.
Ensure surveying activities comply with approved mine plans, statutory
requirements, land regulations, and mine safety standards.
Maintain accurate legal and statutory survey records required by relevant
mining
authorities.
Immediately report any unsafe conditions, unauthorized mining activities, or
deviations from approved mine boundaries.
7. Land & Legal Compliance
Ensure mine boundaries, lease boundaries, land rights, and permitted mining
areas are accurately surveyed and maintained.
Support compliance with applicable mining legislation, land regulations, and
statutory surveying requirements.
Provide accurate survey information for regulatory inspections, audits, and
statutory reporting.
8. Reporting & Documentation
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly survey reports and production measurement
records.
Maintain updated mine plans, survey databases, as-built drawings, volume
calculations, and other technical documentation.
Provide timely survey information and recommendations to management and
operational teams.
