Designation: Technical Head of Department (Technical HOD)
Reporting Line: Plant Head / Head – Engineering / Operations Director / Project Head
Role Objective
The Technical Head of Department is responsible for providing overall technical leadership and governance for all plant and utility systems. The role ensures uninterrupted operations, safety compliance, asset reliability, and optimized energy performance across engineering disciplines including Mechanical, Electrical, Utilities, Automation, and Control systems.
Technical & Engineering Leadership
Provide strategic technical direction and establish engineering standards, SOPs, and best practices.
Act as the final technical authority for system design, modifications, and operational decisions.
Ensure alignment of engineering practices with organization objectives and regulatory requirements.
Operations & Maintenance Management
Ensure 24x7 reliable operation of all critical systems and utilities.
Oversee preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance programs.
Review maintenance schedules, shutdown plans, and restoration strategies.
Asset Performance & Energy Efficiency
Monitor plant performance indicators and system efficiency metrics.
Drive energy optimization initiatives and cost-reduction measures.
Lead performance reviews and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Safety, Statutory & Regulatory Compliance
Ensure compliance with electrical, safety, fire, environmental, and labor regulations.
Promote a strong safety culture through audits, risk assessments, and incident reviews.
Ensure audit preparedness for statutory and third-party inspections.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and mentor engineers, supervisors, and technical staff.
Approve manpower plans, shift rosters, and competency development programs.
Encourage continuous learning and skills enhancement.
Vendor & Contract Management
Manage OEMs, AMC vendors, and service partners.
Review SLA compliance, service quality, and vendor performance.
Support technical evaluation for contracts and upgrades.
Projects & Continuous Improvement
Lead retrofit, modernization, and capacity expansion projects.
Review engineering designs, drawings, and commissioning activities.
Drive adoption of automation, CMMS, and digital maintenance tools.
Reporting & Documentation
Review technical MIS, dashboards, and performance reports.
Ensure proper documentation of SOPs, manuals, and equipment history.
Present technical performance updates to management.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in electrical / mechanical / engineering discipline
• 12–15 years of experience in engineering operations with 7–10 years in leadership roles
