Job Summary
The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and monitoring all safety
practices, statutory compliance, and occupational health & safety systems
within the manufacturing plant. The role ensures safe plant operations,
promotes a strong safety culture, minimizes workplace hazards, and ensures
compliance with Factory Act regulations, industrial safety standards, and
company safety policies in a chemical manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Safety Operations & Compliance
-
Ensure compliance with Factory Act, Maharashtra Factory Rules, PESO
regulations, and other statutory safety requirements.

Implement and monitor safety policies, SOPs, permit systems, and emergency
procedures.

Conduct regular plant safety inspections, audits, and hazard identification
activities.

Monitor PPE compliance and safe work practices across all departments.

Ensure proper implementation of Work Permit Systems such as:

Hot Work Permit
-
Height Work Permit
-
Confined Space Entry Permit
-
Electrical Isolation Permit
-
Maintain statutory safety records, registers, licenses, and documentation.
2. Risk Assessment & Incident Management
-
Conduct risk assessments, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), and hazard analysis for
plant activities.

Investigate accidents, incidents, unsafe acts, and near misses.
-
Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and implement corrective and preventive
actions (CAPA).
-
Ensure timely reporting of incidents and maintain investigation records.

Monitor implementation of corrective actions across departments.
3. Fire & Emergency Management
-
Ensure readiness and maintenance of firefighting systems and emergency
response equipment.

Conduct mock drills, emergency evacuation drills, and firefighting training
programs.
-
Coordinate emergency preparedness activities for chemical handling and
process safety.
-
Ensure proper storage and handling of hazardous chemicals as per MSDS
guidelines.
4. Training & Safety Awareness
-
Conduct induction safety training for new employees and contractors.
-
Organize toolbox talks, safety awareness campaigns, and monthly safety
meetings.

Develop safety communication materials including posters, alerts, and SOP
displays.
-
Promote safety culture and employee participation in EHS initiatives.
5. Audit & Continuous Improvement
-
Participate in internal and external safety audits.
-
Support implementation of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and other EHS management
systems.

Recommend improvements for process safety and workplace hazard reduction.
-
Coordinate with departments for closure of audit observations and compliance
actions.
6. Contractor & Site Safety
-
Monitor contractor safety during shutdowns, maintenance, and project
activities.

Ensure contractor compliance with company safety standards and PPE
requirements.

Verify safety documentation, licenses, and work permits before activity
execution.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s Degree / Diploma in Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental, or
related field.
-
ADIS / PDIS / Diploma in Industrial Safety mandatory.
-
NEBOSH or IOSH certification preferred.
-
Knowledge of chemical plant safety practices and statutory regulations.
Experience Required
-
3 to 6 years of experience in Chemical, Pharmaceutical, API, or
Manufacturing Industry.

Experience in handling industrial safety operations in hazardous process
industries preferred.
