Job Description – Logistics & Dispatch Engineer
Company: Lake Cement Limited
Location: Tanzania
Reporting To: Head – Logistics / Operations Manager / Plant Head
Department: Logistics & Dispatch
1. Role Purpose
The Logistics & Dispatch Engineer is responsible for end-to-end
planning, coordination, and control of
cement and clinker logistics and dispatch operations (bulk and bagged),
ensuring on-time deliveries,
optimized transport utilization, accurate documentation, inventory integrity,
and coordination with
sales, production, transporters, gate control, and weighbridge teams.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Logistics & Dispatch Planning
Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly dispatch and logistics plans based on
sales forecasts and
production availability
Coordinate with Sales and Production to align dispatch priorities and
loading schedules
Plan vehicle deployment, route optimization, and fleet utilization
Monitor dispatch plan vs actual and take corrective actions
B. Dispatch Operations Control
Oversee cement and clinker dispatch operations (bagged and bulk)
Ensure correct product, quantity, destination, and customer as per dispatch
instructions
Monitor loading performance to achieve planned dispatch volumes and
timelines
Prevent dispatch errors, delays, shortages, and mix-ups
C. Weighbridge & Documentation Control
Coordinate with weighbridge and gate control teams to ensure accurate
weighing and
documentation
Ensure correctness of delivery challans, invoices, gate passes, and
transport documents
Ensure ERP, weighbridge, and dispatch data consistency
Prevent unauthorized dispatches, overloading, or under/over-weighment
D. Inventory & Reconciliation
Monitor finished goods inventory at silos, warehouses, and yards
Ensure daily reconciliation of production, dispatch, and closing stock
Support physical stock verification and resolve discrepancies
Track damaged bags, spillages, shortages, and transit losses
E. Transporter & Fleet Management
Coordinate with transport contractors for vehicle availability and placement
Monitor truck turnaround time, waiting time, and cycle time
Ensure compliance with axle load limits, route restrictions, and road
regulations
Resolve delivery delays, shortages, and customer complaints related to
logistics
F. Safety, Compliance & Yard Discipline
Enforce safety procedures across yards, loading points, and logistics
movement areas
Ensure strict PPE compliance by drivers, helpers, and contract manpower
Maintain yard discipline, traffic flow, and housekeeping standards
Report and investigate incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions
G. MIS, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Prepare daily logistics and dispatch MIS (plan vs actual)
Track KPIs such as:
o Dispatch volumes
o Transport efficiency and turnaround time
o Freight cost per ton
o Transit loss and shortage trends
Identify and implement process improvements and cost-optimization
initiatives
3. Qualifications & Experience
Educational Qualification
Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Production, Industrial, or
Logistics Engineering
Experience
5–8 years experience in cement plant logistics and dispatch operations
Hands-on exposure to bulk cement, bagging plants, and transporter
coordination preferred
4. Key Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of cement logistics and dispatch systems
Knowledge of weighbridge operations, ERP, and dispatch controls

Ability to work in shift-based plant operations

Dispatch plan achievement (daily & monthly)
Reduction in truck turnaround and waiting time

Safety compliance and incident-free logistics operations
6. Authority & Accountability
Authority over dispatch planning and logistics coordination
Power to hold or stop dispatches for non-compliance or safety violations
Accountability for dispatch accuracy, logistics efficiency, and reporting
