Head of Technology Architecture

Location:  Bangalore / Hyderabad   
Reports to:  Head of Enterprise Architecture   
 

About the Role  

As  Head of Technology Architecture , you will define and drive Swiss Re’s global technology architecture vision, shaping how cloud, data, and digital platforms enable the business to innovate with speed and resilience.  

Based in India, this is a  strategic global leadership role  where you will guide modernization efforts, set technology standards, and influence architectural decisions across all business domains. You’ll partner with global executives, domain architects, and platform leaders to design scalable, secure, and future-ready technology foundations.

Main Responsibilities  

Technology Architecture Leadership  

• Define and maintain the enterprise-wide  technology architecture blueprint , ensuring alignment with Swiss Re’s business strategy and digital transformation goals.
• Establish and govern  architecture standards, frameworks, and reference models  across cloud, data, infrastructure, and application domains.
• Drive  modernization initiatives  — including AI enablement, multi-cloud adoption, technology lifecycle management, and platform consolidation.
• Develop a  target-state architecture  that promotes scalability, agility, and interoperability across business units.
• Lead architecture engagement for major transformation programs and strategic technology decisions  

Governance & Oversight  

• Oversee adherence to technology architecture principles, policies, and design patterns across the enterprise.
• Evaluate and recommend technology choices, ensuring sustainability, resilience, and security.
• Chair or influence  architecture decision boards  to guide investment and design decisions.
• Identify and mitigate  technology risks and technical debt , ensuring long-term platform health and modernization.  

Strategic Collaboration  

• Partner with  Technology, Data, and Security  functions to ensure integrated architecture outcomes.
• Collaborate with business and IT leaders to  translate strategy into technology capabilities  and roadmap priorities.
• Work with cloud, data, and application leaders to ensure architectural standards are embedded in delivery and operations.
• Build and nurture a group-wide  high-performing technology architecture community    

Innovation & Emerging Technology  

• Stay ahead of emerging technologies, tools, and industry trends, evaluating their relevance within the insurance and financial services domains.
• Foster a  culture of innovation , experimentation, and continuous improvement within the architecture team and broader IT organization.
• Promote  architecture as a catalyst for innovation , balancing long-term vision with practical implementation.  

Team Leadership  

• Lead and develop the Technology Architecture team, fostering excellence, collaboration, and innovation.  

 

About you  

• Education:  University degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or Technology Management (or equivalent experience).
• Experience:  10+ years in technology and solution architecture, with hands-on experience in large-scale enterprise environments.
• Deep expertise across  cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) , integration, infrastructure, DevOps, networking, and modern data & analytics platforms (e.g., Palantir Foundry).
• Strong understanding of  security, compliance, and resilience  principles relevant to the insurance or financial services sectors.
• Proven success in  defining and implementing enterprise technology roadmaps  and governance frameworks.
• Exceptional  leadership, influence, and communication skills , able to guide technical and business stakeholders alike.
• Track record of  innovation and modernization , driving simplification and transformation at scale.
• TOGAF or equivalent enterprise architecture certification is an asset.
• Fluent in English (written and spoken)
