Purpose of the role
To lead the collection and analysis of research into customer needs,
experiences, and interactions, ensuring the Customer Voice is embedded in
decision‑making and supporting the creation of beautiful, useful, and
innovative experiences and communications for our 20m UK customers.
Accountabilities
-
Delivery of end to end quantitative research programmes, which are
highly synergistic with other research and analytics activities
conducted by the business, including Design/UX Research and CX and brand
tracking.

Collaboration with various departments including Design, Product,
Channel, Marketing, Transformation and Technology, to brainstorm
innovative proposition and design concepts, ensuring that research
findings are integrated into all stages of the innovation cycle.

Monitoring of emerging technologies, industry trends, insight best
practices, societal changes, and economic trends that may impact the
Customer landscape and influence Barclays strategic decisions.

Developing and testing of mock-ups and value propositions to support the
analysis of concept and product development.
-
Utilisation of data analytics tools to extract insights from market and
Design/UX research to identify new opportunities and understand evolving
customer needs.

Management of all risk relating to the Insight process, (and in
particular Data Privacy risk) including identification of potential
risks, development of strategies to mitigate those risks, and
maintenance of alignment with Chief Controls Office and Data Privacy
Compliance.

Management of all Research programmes, including oversight of colleagues
and their performance, implementation of departmental goals and
objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
-
Act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders, influencing
decision‑making, shaping policy, and contributing to operational
effectiveness across the organisation by translating business questions
into clear research hypotheses and robust study designs.

Lead and develop a high‑performing team, setting objectives, coaching
performance, supporting appraisal and reward outcomes, and upskilling
colleagues in quantitative research and analysis, including the
development and use of AI tools (e.g. agents and standardised prompts).

Direct complex, cross‑functional research initiatives, identifying when
specialist expertise is required and applying appropriate quantitative
and Design/UX methodologies to deliver outcomes. 'Complex' information
could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to
communicate because of its content or its audience

Design, build, and manage quantitative research and Design/UX studies
using platforms, such as Qualtrics and UserTesting, including advanced
techniques such as conjoint and MaxDiff.

Develop strong sampling frameworks, ensuring high-quality data
collection, validation, and cleaning.

Conduct and oversee complex analysis using multiple data sources,
applying statistical techniques such as t‑tests, ANOVA, MANOVA, and
regression, using Excel and statistical software.

Interpret and synthesise quantitative findings with qualitative and
secondary research, working closely with insight managers and design
researchers to generate actionable insight.

Communicate and present complex and sensitive information clearly,
creating compelling visualisations, reports, and narratives tailored to
different stakeholder audiences.

Present insights to senior leadership and cross‑functional forums,
influencing and aligning stakeholders to agreed outcomes and driving
informed decision‑making.

Proactively identify, mitigate, and manage risk, strengthening controls
and contributing to the organisation’s control and governance agenda.

Apply strong organisational awareness, working closely with adjacent
teams to ensure insight activity aligns with and supports the wider
business strategy.

Identify opportunities for new research initiatives and thought
leadership, ensuring the function continues to evolve and deliver
strategic value.
Preferred qualifications
-
Master’s degree or higher in Statistics, Psychology, Economics, Market
Research, or related field.
-
5+ years of experience in quantitative research, ideally in a commercial
or consulting setting.

Advanced proficiency in Excel for statistical analysis and data
visualization.

Experience with Qualtrics, UserTesting or similar survey platforms.
-
Strong knowledge of statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, Python).
-
Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI).

Strong communication and storytelling skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently yet
collaboratively in a team.
