Role Overview

The Category Analyst will support category leadership by delivering financial insights, category performance analytics, and strategic recommendations. The role requires strong grounding in business finance and accounting, with hands-on exposure from articleship at a Top 10 CA firm. The incumbent will work closely with category managers, sourcing, supply chain, and finance teams to drive profitable growth, cost optimization, and data-backed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze category P&L, margins, cost structures, and working capital to identify improvement opportunities.
Prepare and track budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses for assigned categories.
Support pricing, promotions, and assortment decisions through financial modeling and scenario analysis.
Monitor category KPIs including revenue, gross margin, inventory turns, shrinkage, and ROI.
Assist in vendor negotiations by providing cost benchmarks, should-cost models, and financial insights.
Conduct monthly/quarterly performance reviews and present actionable insights to senior stakeholders.
Collaborate with supply chain and procurement to optimize inventory levels and cash cycles.
Support internal audits, controls, and compliance related to category operations.
Develop dashboards and MIS reports for category performance and management reviews.
Drive continuous improvement through data automation and process standardization.

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of business finance, management accounting, and financial analysis.
Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, power query, financial models); working knowledge of Power BI preferred.
Ability to translate financial data into clear business insights.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.
High attention to detail with the ability to work in fast-paced FMCG/retail environments.
Effective communication and presentation skills.

Educational Qualifications

Chartered Accountant (CA) – Qualified or CA Finalist.
Mandatory articleship experience from a Top 10 CA firm with exposure to audit, business finance, or consulting.

Experience

1–3 years of post-articleship or relevant experience in category analytics, business finance, consulting, FMCG, retail, or consumer-facing industries.

Preferred Experience

Exposure to FMCG/Retail category management or commercial finance.
Experience in budgeting, forecasting, pricing analysis, or cost optimization projects.
Familiarity with SAP or similar ERP systems.
