Role Title: - Techno-Production Engineer – Spring-Energised Lip Seals 

Location: - Howrah/Kolkata, West Bengal 
Reporting Into: - Production Manager / Head of Operations 

About Client: - 

1. Product & Design Engineering

•     Design Laminar Seals across the full size range (heat-exchanger, body-bonnet, manhole, large-diameter custom) per ASME B16.20, B16.21, EN 1514, and customer-specific drawings.

•     Select core materials (SS 304/316L/321, Inconel 625/718, Monel, Hastelloy, soft iron) and facing/sealing layers (graphite, PTFE, mica, ceramic) for the operating envelope.

•     Build and maintain a complete drawing, BOM and tooling library; standardise where possible, customise where it adds value.

•     Drive Value Engineering and DFMEA on every new design before release to production.

2. Manufacturing & Process Set-up

•     Lead the green-field set-up of the laminar seal cell – machine layout, CNC profiling, grooving, facing, bonding/integration of soft layers, finishing and packing.

•     Specify, source, commission and validate machinery, tooling, fixtures and dies; own capex justification and vendor negotiation jointly with Procurement.

•     Define and document SOPs, work instructions, control plans, PFMEA and process parameters; train operators and shift in-charges.

•     Achieve target OEE, first-pass yield and cost-per-unit benchmarks within agreed timelines.

3. Quality, Testing & Customer Qualification

•     Build the quality plan in line with ISO 9001:2015, IATF 16949 (where applicable), API 6FA / API 622 / API 624, ASME PCC-1 and customer-specific PQRs.

•     Set up an in-house test rig for hot blow-out, ageing, compressibility/recovery, hot compression, leakage and hydro testing.

•     Drive PPAP / FAI / first-article approvals and dossier submissions to refineries, EPCs, valve/pump OEMs and inspection agencies (TPIA, EIL, Lloyd’s, BV, DNV, TUV).

•     Lead RCA on field failures and customer complaints; close the loop into design and process.

4. Commercial, Costing & Cross-functional

•     Partner with Sales & Marketing to build the GTM plan; support pre-sales technical discussions, plant visits, technical presentations and offers.

•     Own the standard costing, BOM accuracy and margin discipline for the laminar seal line; flag deviations and drive corrective actions.

•     Work closely with Procurement on strategic sourcing of metallic strips, graphite and specialty materials, including import scheduling.

•     Coordinate with PPC, Dispatch and Stores on production scheduling, inventory norms and on-time delivery.

5. People & Leadership

•     Build the laminar seal team from the ground up – design engineers, process engineers, operators, QA inspectors – and develop a strong succession bench.

•     Set the safety, 5S and discipline standard on the shop floor; lead by example.

•     Mentor cross-functional teams (Sales, QA, Maintenance) on laminar seal technology so that institutional knowledge is shared, not siloed.

•     Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Metallurgical Engineering from a reputed institute. M.Tech / MBA an advantage but not a substitute for hands-on depth.

•     Years of Experience: 5+ years in the gasket / sealing industry, with at least the last 5 years specifically on Laminar / Layered / Spiral Wound / Kammprofile / Camprofile metallic gaskets.

•     Direct Hands-on: Demonstrated, in-the-shop experience on grooving / profiling / facing of metallic cores, layer integration, bonding, and final assembly of laminar seals.

•     Standards: Working command of ASME B16.20/B16.21, API 6FA / 622 / 624, ISO 15848, EN 1514; familiarity with refinery and EPC vendor approval processes.

•     Tools: AutoCAD / SolidWorks (or equivalent), basic ERP (SAP / Oracle / similar), MS Office; comfortable reading and creating GD&T drawings.

•     Languages: English (essential); Hindi and / or Bengali strongly preferred for shop-floor effectiveness.

•     Six Sigma Green / Black Belt; Lean Manufacturing exposure.

•     Experience setting up a green-field product line or new manufacturing cell.

•     Exposure to fugitive emission testing and low-emission valve packings.

•     Patent / publication / technical paper authorship in sealing technology.

•     Owner’s mindset: treats the product line P&L as their own.

•     Hands-on bias: comfortable on the shop floor and equally articulate in a customer boardroom.

•     Drive for closure: moves designs, qualifications and approvals to completion without nudging.

•     Customer obsession: thinks first about the customer’s plant, not our convenience.
