Location: Bombay Sweet Shop · Mumbai · Full-Time · 3–5 years
Hunger Inc. is home to The Bombay Canteen, O Pedro, Bombay Sweet Shop, Veronica's and Papa's. We build brands across restaurants, cafés, and gifting, rooted in culture, craft, and attention to detail. We're a people-first company that values clarity, ownership, and consistency. As we grow, we focus on building strong teams and systems that help us create meaningful experiences, every day.
The Visual Merchandise Specialist at Bombay Sweet Shop owns how the brand actually looks and feels the moment someone walks into a store, or scrolls past a digital screen. Not the campaign idea, not the product but the shelf, the tag, the display, the screen. The physical and digital surfaces where a customer decides, in seconds, whether something's worth picking up.
Bombay Sweet Shop runs on detail - a mithai box, a price tag, a festival window. This role holds that detail to a consistent standard across every store, existing and newly opened, every day and every season - making sure mithai, gifting, packaged products, and café offerings are easy to discover, understand, and shop. You'll take what marketing and design are building – a campaign, a launch, a festival moment - and translate it into small, deliberate additions in store: signage, tags, callouts, screen content, props. Not full makeovers. Additions that make a store feel like it's paying attention, with retail storytelling and customer experience running through all of it. This role sits close to design and close to the floor, equally comfortable reviewing a moodboard and walking a store to check if a tag is placed right.
You've worked somewhere with a physical retail floor, a food outlet, an FMCG brand a store - and you understand that a product's shelf presence is as important as the product itself. You notice things others walk past: a crooked tag, a screen running stale content, a display that needs one more thing or one less thing.
You think about how a customer actually discovers a product, what makes them stop, what makes them pick it up, what makes gifting feel easy instead of overwhelming.
You think in details but plan in systems - you can turn “it's Diwali” or “we're launching a new range” into a clear, repeatable in-store plan without needing everything spelled out for you. You're equally comfortable briefing a vendor, checking a print proof, and walking into a store to see how it's actually landing.
You report to the Head of Design.
You'll work closely with the Head of Design and the wider marketing team, including content, and coordinate regularly with the ops team on the ground and external vendors for signage, print, and props.
Store Layout & Planograms: Plan zoning, adjacencies, and display hierarchy across mithai, gifting, packaged products, beverages, and café counters – including shelves, refrigerators, and billing areas. Identify hero products, bestsellers, new launches, and impulse-purchase moments, and build planograms every store can follow.
Brand Storytelling & Customer Experience: Turn Bombay Sweet Shop's contemporary Indian mithai story into displays that tell it - ingredients, regional inspiration, craftsmanship, festive traditions. Keep the visual language playful, contemporary, and unmistakably Bombay Sweet Shop, and make it easy for customers to discover, sample, and navigate across retail, takeaway, and café zones.
Pricing & Product Tags: Ensure every price tag, product tag, and callout is accurate, on-brand, and easy to read – across all stores.
Digital Screens: Plan and manage what's playing on in-store digital screens, keeping content fresh and relevant to what's happening that week.
Campaign & Festival Merchandising: Translate campaigns and festivals into small, deliberate in-store additions – signage, props, window and counter displays – that make a store feel current without a full overhaul.
Gifting & Seasonal Merchandising: Turn hampers, build-your-own gifting, and seasonal collections into displays organised by occasion, recipient, and price point, with packaging and gift boxes presented cohesively – so gifting feels easy, not overwhelming.
Product Launch Execution: Ideate and set up the in-store visual moment for every new product launch, from first display to supporting signage.
Store Styling & On-Ground Execution: Style counters, shelves, gifting tables, refrigerators, and impulse displays yourself, or supervise vendors doing it. Coordinate display changeovers and on-site installations, and make sure what gets approved is what actually lands in store, on time.
New Store Openings & Refreshes: Set the visual standard from day one at new stores, including airport-format outlets, and lead refreshes at existing ones.
Store Audits & Standards: Walk stores regularly, audit against VM standards, and track product availability, replenishment, display density, pricing, and signage. Maintain before-and-after records, flag what's slipping, and keep every store fresh, full, and customer-ready through the day.
Guidelines & Store-Team Training: Build the SOPs, checklists, and planograms stores actually use. Train store teams on placement, replenishment, and everyday upkeep, run refresher sessions with real feedback, and build VM ownership across store managers and frontline teams – so the standard holds between your visits.
Cross-Team & Vendor Coordination: Work with brand, design, marketing, ops, and store teams on what's coming, and with printers, fabricators, prop vendors, and installation partners on getting it there. Track samples, production schedules, costs, deliveries, and installations through a running VM calendar and project tracker, with store-wise updates as things land.
