Role summary
Senior automation engineer for a federal/public-sector technology environment. The role requires deep QA automation expertise across cloud-native and air-gapped environments, strong Python, API/UI automation, CI/CD integration and comfort operating under federal security and compliance expectations.
Key responsibilities
· Design, develop and execute automated tests for cloud-native, federal and air-gapped environments.
· Integrate automated test suites into GitLab CI / Jenkins pipelines and validate builds before deployment.
· Perform end-to-end testing across frontend UI, backend services, APIs, CLI/logs and containerized microservices.
· Validate reliability, performance, security and compliance baselines in government-oriented environments.
· Execute regression and smoke testing during sprint releases and continuous-deployment cycles.
· Maintain test plans, test cases, automated-run evidence and defect documentation using Jira / Allure or comparable tools.
· Troubleshoot across Linux and Windows environments and collaborate closely with engineering and DevOps teams.
Core requirements
· Minimum 10 years of QA and software-automation development experience.
· Strong Python for automation scripting and framework development.
· Hands-on manual and automated API testing plus manual and automated UI testing.
· Deep Linux knowledge; exposure to RHEL, Ubuntu and Amazon Linux is valuable.
· Git / GitLab plus CI/CD experience using GitLab CI or Jenkins.
· Experience with modern browser automation such as Playwright.
· Backend testing, databases / SQL and structured test methodologies.
· U.S. citizenship is mandatory due to public-sector compliance requirements.
Preferred differentiators
· AWS GovCloud / EKS or comparable government-cloud exposure.
· FedRAMP, NIST or similar federal compliance familiarity.
· AI-assisted testing tools and test-case generation experience.
· Allure or comparable automated reporting frameworks.
· Experience with air-gapped or highly restricted environments.
