Utility Engineer – BESS Plant

Role Purpose
The Utility Engineer is responsible for operation, maintenance, reliability,
and optimization of plant utilities required for Battery Energy Storage System
(BESS) manufacturing and assembly operations, ensuring uninterrupted, safe,
and energy-efficient utility supply.
Key Responsibilities
Utility Operations & Maintenance

Operate and maintain electrical utilities: HT/LT systems, transformers, DG
sets, UPS, PCC/MCC panels, and earthing systems.

Manage mechanical utilities: Chillers, cooling towers, AHUs, ventilation &
exhaust systems.

Operate and maintain compressed air systems, air dryers, receivers, and
distribution networks.

Monitor process water, RO/DM water systems, pumps, tanks, and piping
networks.

Ensure continuous availability of utilities for BESS module, pack, and
container assembly lines.
Electrical & Energy Management

Monitor power consumption, load balancing, PF improvement, and energy
optimization initiatives.

Coordinate with DISCOM for sanction load, metering, billing, shutdowns, and
compliance.

Ensure compliance with CEIG, Electrical Inspectorate, and statutory norms.

Support installation, testing, and commissioning of new utility equipment.
Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance

Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all utilities.

Troubleshoot breakdowns with minimum downtime and perform root cause
analysis (RCA).
- Maintain maintenance records, checklists, and history cards.
Safety, Compliance & Documentation

Ensure adherence to electrical safety, fire safety, EHS, and statutory
regulations.
- Coordinate third-party inspections, audits, and statutory renewals.

Prepare and maintain SOPs, O&M manuals, logbooks, and compliance
documentation.
Vendor & Project Coordination
-
Coordinate with OEMs, AMC vendors, and contractors for utilities operation
and maintenance.

Support utility expansion projects aligned with BESS capacity ramp-up.
- Review BOQs, technical specifications, and vendor performance.
Automation & Monitoring
- Monitor utilities through SCADA/BMS/EMS systems.

Interface with PLC/automation teams for alarms, interlocks, and system
integration.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of HT/LT electrical systems and plant utilities.

Hands-on experience in utility O&M in manufacturing / energy / battery
plants.
- Understanding of BESS plant environment & criticality of utilities.
- Troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with ISO, EHS, electrical statutory compliance.
- Good coordination, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Experience
-
Experience in BESS, Lithium-ion battery, EV, data center, or semiconductor
plants.
- Exposure to 24x7 utility operations.
