About Opniscience
Opniscience is building a cloud-native, AI-enabled enterprise platform for
regulated, high-trust workflows used by institutional teams and their
external counterparts. Our focus is to modernize onboarding,
document-heavy processes, client servicing, and reporting through governed
automation and responsible AI. This is the founding team’s second startup
venture. We’re looking for bold builders, smart & accountable
risk-takers, and serious problem solvers.
Why This Role Exists
:
We’re hiring an Engineering Lead to build and own the
core platform layer
—the foundational services every module depends on. You will design and
ship primitives like
identity & permissions, workflow patterns, audit trails, document
lifecycle, notifications, and integration interfaces
. Your work will become the backbone of the product and directly impact
reliability, security, and customer experience.
What You’ll Build and Own (Examples)
You will help shape and implement core capabilities such as:
-
Workflow core:
tasks, state machines, approvals, SLAs, escalation, assignment
rules
-
Collaboration core:
internal/external threads tied to business entities, with
permissions and auditability
-
Canonical data model:
consistent, extensible domain model enabling smart search,
tagging, and intuitive navigation
-
Governance core:
entitlements (RBAC/ABAC), audit logs, publish controls,
evidence/trace bundles
-
Document lifecycle:
ingestion
→
metadata extraction
→
classification
→
versioning
→
retention
→
secure sharing/delivery
-
Notification & messaging layer:
rules-driven alerts (email/in-app), digests, subscription
preferences
-
Integration layer:
connectors to enterprise systems (CRM/ERP/portfolio/accounting/ops
tools); event-driven patterns
-
AI experience hooks:
OCR, source-linked summaries/Q&A, and human review/approval
workflows
Responsibilities
-
Architect and implement end-to-end features across
backend and frontend
-
Make pragmatic design decisions balancing speed with scalability and
maintainability
-
Build
secure, reliable APIs and services
with strong observability (logs/metrics/traces)
-
Define engineering standards: testing strategy, code quality, CI/CD, and
release discipline
-
Partner with product/design to clarify requirements and ship in tight
iterations
-
Mentor engineers as the team grows; raise the bar through code reviews
and technical leadership
-
Own production outcomes: monitoring, incident response, performance and
reliability improvements
-
Build with quality-first habits to minimize QA effort (automation,
testability, predictable releases)
Requirements
-
Strong hands-on full-stack experience shipping production systems
-
Backend excellence in
Java/Spring Boot (or equivalent)
and distributed systems fundamentals
-
Experience building scalable, secure, maintainable systems using modern
stacks (e.g.,
Angular, TypeScript, cloud platforms like AWS/Azure
)
-
Comfort integrating with legacy/enterprise environments (e.g.,
.NET, Java, C++
ecosystems)
-
Deep understanding of
security, permissions (RBAC/ABAC), multi-tenant architecture, and
auditability
-
Experience with cloud deployment, containers, CI/CD pipelines, and
observability tooling
-
Ability to simplify complexity and build reusable platform primitives
-
Strong debugging/troubleshooting skills with performance and reliability
mindset
-
Very strong communication skills (clear thinking, clear writing)
Bonus:
Experience with workflow engines/state machines, document management
systems, regulated/fintech/ops-heavy platforms, or enterprise
integrations.
