About the Role
Gokaldas Images Pvt. Ltd., one of India's leading apparel exporters, is seeking an experienced General Manager – IMPEX to lead its import and export operations. The role is responsible for ensuring seamless international trade, customs compliance, export-import documentation, banking coordination, and statutory compliance while supporting efficient movement of raw materials and finished goods across global markets.
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in export-oriented manufacturing, strong knowledge of EXIM regulations, and the ability to lead a high-performing IMPEX team.
Key Responsibilities
Import & Export Operations
- Manage end-to-end import and export activities for raw materials, machinery, accessories, and finished garments.
- Coordinate with factories, merchandising, procurement, logistics partners, freight forwarders, and Customs House Agents (CHAs) to ensure timely shipment execution.
- Monitor shipment schedules, resolve operational issues, and optimize logistics costs.
Customs & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Customs, DGFT, RBI, FEMA, GST, and other applicable import-export regulations.
- Handle customs clearances and maintain complete statutory compliance.
- Liaise with Customs authorities, DGFT, shipping lines, freight forwarders, and government agencies.
Documentation & Banking
- Oversee preparation and verification of all import-export documentation, including Commercial Invoices, Packing Lists, Shipping Bills, Bills of Entry, Certificates of Origin, Bills of Lading/Airway Bills, and Letter of Credit documents.
- Coordinate with banks for export documentation, foreign remittances, Letters of Credit, Bank Guarantees, and export realization.
- Ensure accurate and timely submission of documents to avoid shipment delays and compliance issues.
Advance Authorization & EPCG
- Manage Advance Authorization (Advance Licensing) and EPCG schemes.
- Monitor export obligations, license utilization, and ensure compliance with DGFT requirements.
- Identify opportunities to maximize duty savings and government incentives.
Team & Stakeholder Management
- Lead and mentor the IMPEX team while driving process discipline and operational excellence.
- Collaborate closely with Production, Merchandising, Procurement, Finance, Commercial, and Supply Chain teams to ensure smooth business operations.
- Build strong relationships with banks, customs authorities, logistics partners, and external agencies.
Process Improvement
- Drive process standardization, digitization, and automation of IMPEX activities.
- Develop MIS reports and KPIs to improve shipment visibility, documentation accuracy, compliance, and cost efficiency.
Candidate Profile
- 10+ years of experience in Import & Export operations within an export-oriented manufacturing organization, preferably apparel or textiles.
- Strong knowledge of import-export procedures, customs regulations, documentation, banking requirements, and international trade compliance.
- Hands-on experience in customs clearance, DGFT procedures, Advance Authorization (Advance Licensing), and EPCG schemes.
- Proven experience in managing IMPEX teams and coordinating with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
- Experience with ERP-based documentation and trade management systems will be an added advantage.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Management, Logistics, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Postgraduate qualification in International Business, Supply Chain, or Logistics is preferred.
Preferred Industry
Candidates from Apparel, Textiles, Garment Exports, Leather, Consumer Goods, Engineering Manufacturing, or other export-oriented manufacturing companies will be preferred.
