Responsibilities

---

1. Migration Planning & Assessment

• Assess existing MS SQL Server 2016 database architecture (schemas, stored procedures, views, functions, jobs).
• Perform database inventory and complexity analysis.
• Identify migration risks and dependencies.
• Define migration strategy (Lift-and-Shift, Re-architecture, Hybrid approach).
• Prepare detailed migration roadmap and timeline.

2. Schema & Code Conversion

• Convert MS SQL objects (tables, indexes, constraints, views).
• Rewrite stored procedures, functions, triggers into Snowflake-compatible SQL.
• Optimize SQL transformations for Snowflake performance model.
• Handle data type mapping and compatibility issues.

3. Data Migration

• Design and implement bulk data migration strategy.
• Use tools such as:
  • Snowflake SnowSQL
  • Snowpipe
  • Azure Data Factory / Informatica / Matillion (if applicable)
• Ensure minimal downtime and data integrity.
• Perform validation and reconciliation between source and target.

4. Performance Optimization

• Design optimal Snowflake architecture (warehouse sizing, clustering keys).
• Optimize query performance.
• Implement cost-efficient Snowflake usage practices.
• Set up monitoring and performance tracking.

5. Security & Governance

• Implement Snowflake RBAC model.
• Configure data masking and access controls.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise data security standards.

6. Testing & Deployment

• Support UAT and performance testing.
• Resolve migration defects.
• Coordinate cutover strategy and production deployment.
• Provide post-migration support and hypercare.

7. Documentation & Knowledge Transfer

• Provide technical documentation.
• Conduct knowledge transfer sessions for internal teams.
• Deliver runbooks and operational guides.

Skills

Strong experience with:

• T-SQL
• Stored procedures and performance tuning
• Indexing and query optimization

Strong knowledge of:

• Snowflake architecture
• Virtual warehouses
• Clustering
• Time travel & data retention
• Snowflake security model

Migration Experience

• Proven experience in at least 1–2 end-to-end SQL to Snowflake migrations.
• Experience with ETL/ELT tools.
• Data validation and reconciliation expertise.

Additional Skills (Preferred)

• Experience migrating from MS SQL Server 2016 specifically.
• Experience in cloud platforms (Azure/AWS).
• Familiarity with data warehousing concepts.
• Experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau).

Budget

Budget is 1.6 LPM for candidates with 5+ years of experience; 2 LPM budget is for candidates with 8 or 9 years of experience.
