Job title - Lead Design Engineer - Brakes
Location - Hamamatsu, Japan
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Engineer
specializing in brake systems to join the team onsite at a OEM facility in
Japan. Theideal candidate will lead the design, development, and validation of
advanced braking systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and OEM
requirements. This role demands strong technical expertise, cross-functional
collaboration, and the ability to work within a fast-paced, innovative
environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead the design and development of brake system components and assemblies
for automotive applications.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including R&D,
manufacturing, quality, and testing to ensure design feasibility and
manufacturability.
• Develop detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications using
industry-standard software tools.
• Conduct design reviews, failure mode analysis, and risk assessments to
ensure product reliability and safety.
• Support prototype development, testing, and validation activities onsite,
including performance testing and durability analysis.
• Interface with suppliers and OEM partners to align design requirements and
resolve technical issues.
• Ensure compliance with relevant automotive standards, regulations, and OEM
quality requirements.
• Document design processes, test results, and technical reports in English
and/or Japanese as required.
• Coordination with offshore team and train the team with the technical
guidance.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Proficient in CAD software (NX or similar tools) and PLM tools(Teamcenter)
• Strong understanding of brake system components including disc brakes, drum
brakes, ABS, and electronic brake control systems, brake pipes, parking brake
cables, electric vacuum pump brackets.
• Experience in prototype testing, validation, and failure analysis.
• Strong communication skills in English and proficiency in Japanese(N3 and
above)
• Willingness to work and collaborate closely with OEM teams with offshore
onsite structure.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Experience working directly with Japanese OEMs or within the Japanese
automotive industry.
• Familiarity with electric and hybrid vehicle brake systems.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive
Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years of experience in Automotive components design / brake system design and development, preferably within the automotive OEM sector
