Product Development Engineer

Job Summary:

The Product Development Engineer will play a pivotal role in the creation and enhancement of innovative products, focusing on sheet metal and plastic design. This position impacts our organization by driving the development process and ensuring that products meet the highest standards of functionality and manufacturability.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop new products utilizing sheet metal and plastic components, emphasizing functionality and aesthetic appeal.
Conduct Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to ensure product reliability and manufacturability.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and develop specifications for new product initiatives.
Utilize Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles to create and review technical drawings and models.
Perform prototyping and testing of designs, analyzing results and iterating on design solutions as necessary.
Stay abreast of industry trends and technologies to incorporate innovative practices into new product development.
Prepare and present design concepts and status updates to stakeholders throughout the product lifecycle.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or a related field.
2-5 years of experience in product development, specifically with sheet metal and plastic design.
Strong understanding of DFM and DFMEA methodologies to support efficient product development.
Proficiency in GD&T standards and application in engineering drawings.
Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, NX) for design and modeling purposes.
Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to articulate ideas and concepts clearly.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with prototyping and rapid manufacturing techniques.
Knowledge of material selection and analysis, particularly for plastic and metal components.
Familiarity with regulatory requirements in the industry and how they affect product design.
