Job Description
Position: Category Buyer - Subcontracting & Indirect Procurement
Department: Supply Chain Management
Reporting To: Supply Chain Manager
Job Purpose
To manage procurement activities related to subcontracting services and
miscellaneous
indirect purchases, ensuring timely availability of services and materials at
the optimum
cost, quality, and delivery performance. The role supports manufacturing,
projects,
maintenance, warehouse, administration, and business operations through
effective
vendor management and sourcing strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Subcontracting Procurement
Manage end-to-end procurement for subcontracting requirements such as
fabrication, machining, painting, coating, assembly, and other outsourced
manufacturing processes.
Float RFQs, obtain quotations, and conduct techno-commercial evaluations.
Develop and maintain a qualified subcontractor base.
Negotiate pricing, lead times, payment terms, and service conditions.
Monitor subcontractor capacity, quality performance, and delivery
commitments.
Follow up on material issue and receipt transactions related to
subcontracting
activities.
Coordinate with Production, Planning, Quality, and Projects teams to ensure
timely job completion.
Miscellaneous Procurement
Manage procurement of indirect materials and services including:
o Maintenance consumables
o Safety items and PPE
o Facility and office supplies
o Tools and equipment
o Engineering and project-related purchases
o AMC and service contracts
Ensure timely procurement while maintaining budget compliance.
Supplier Management
Identify and develop new vendors to improve competitiveness and reduce
supply
risk.
Evaluate supplier performance on:
o Cost
o Quality
o Delivery
o Responsiveness
Conduct periodic supplier reviews and implement corrective actions where
required.
Maintain supplier records, agreements, and commercial documentation.
Cost Optimization
Drive annual cost reduction initiatives through sourcing, negotiation, and
alternate source development.
Benchmark market prices and identify opportunities for savings.
Support value engineering and localization initiatives.
Coordination & Planning
Work closely with:
o Production Planning
o Manufacturing
o Quality
o Engineering
o Projects
o Warehouse
o Finance
Ensure procurement activities align with production schedules and project
timelines.
Expedite critical requirements to avoid production disruptions.
Systems & Reporting
Create and monitor Purchase Orders in ERP systems.
Track open orders and vendor delivery commitments.
Maintain procurement MIS and KPI reports.
Support monthly management reviews with procurement performance data.
Compliance & Governance
Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and procedures.
Support audits by maintaining complete procurement documentation.
Adhere to ethical sourcing and supplier management practices.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Supply Chain, or related discipline.
5-8 years of procurement experience in manufacturing or engineering
industries.
Experience in subcontracting procurement and indirect purchasing preferred.
Knowledge of ERP systems such as LN, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or
equivalent.
